Digging & Scratching Crate & Floors

My 8mo old has recently starting digging or scratching the floor of his crate or the floor in general. Any suggestions on how to curb this behavior. Cat scratching mat maybe?

Bella does that as a part of her puppy zoomie routine. I just let her have at it. lol

Sounds like nesting.... does he do it just before laying down?
