at the shelter when we picked up our new family member (bulldog), one staffer at shelter really was insistent that we should use a harness rather than collar. Our trainer (who the new dog will meet soon!) says for bulldogs, harness puts to much stress on their joints, to use a collar, and also is a believer (as are we) in using stimulation collars (we use one with our current dog, with very good success). I know bulldogs have breathing issues, in the current heat, victoria pants nearly our entire walk. But if you train them not to strain at the lead, I don't think a properly adjusted collar should be an issue.

What say you all?

If the harness isn’t fitted right, it can rub and give them rashes and yes, hurt their joints. I’ve seen a lot of dogs wearing them wrong. Some are way too tight. My rule of thumb, if your fingers can go under without issues, it’s on right. Same as a collar. Also gives them breathing room. None of my dog’s ever had joint problems cause they wore harnesses and I use to walk them every morning in the city. On the acreage they run and walk freely. I say it’s personal. My dogs always had/have a collar on 24/7. Btw, I never walked any of them if it’s 25 cel or more. Early morning walks are safer. Unless you live in a desert which isn’t a Canadian problem 😁
