Cherry Eye Recovery Norm

Hi everyone! I am writing with a quick question about my bulldogs cherry eye surgery recovery. So she had the cherry eye tacked about 2 months ago and it seemed to my husband and I that it never looked much better. About one month in - we went back into the vet for a checkup and he said it was just normal swelling and it should go down. Well here we are a month later and it still looks bad. It also is blocking her year duct so she get mucus in her eye that we have to put eye drops on. Her eye also gets bloodshot because of it. We are going to the vet tomorrow and I would love to hear from y'all before I see him. If he says he still thinks it is just swelling, I'm going to be pretty frustrated because I feel like it is bothering her and I don't want to just do nothing. Hi Christine. My female Blossom had cherry eye surgery in bothneyes last year when she was 7 months old, we did it at the same time as her spay surgery. We also opted to have the gland tacked back in. She is now 2 and 1/2 years old, and her eyes are beautiful, you would never know she had surgery on her eyes. Our vet did a very good job. She didn't have any swelling after her surgery, and we just had to put antibiotic drops in her eyes for a week after her surgery, and we had a follow up a week after, for a check up and her eyes healed very quickly. I don't think it should be swollen anymore especially 2 months after her surgery. This is not normal, it should have healed by now. Have you considered getting a second opinion? Maybe she also has Entropian of her eye, and this could be causing irritation of her eye? I would definitely take her back to the vet and have her check it again, and if you aren't happy with the answers the vet gives you, you could take her to an eye specialist to see what they say. I hope everything works out and her eye heals soon. Please keep us posted on what the vet says.

Diesel had one tacked when he was 6 month old. And all Is peachy. It's a common thing.

What a beautiful girl! Monica gave you great into.... Sometimes it takes a awhile for it to look better, but sometimes ther are other issue to consider. Ask about he eyelashes and if still not happy after today's visit seek a second opinion... Does not hurt anything but might help your peace of mind knowing she is just on a longer recovery

He gave us a steroid drop to see if it reduces the swelling for about a week. If that doesn't work, he has agreed to try and tack the cherry eye again. Thanks again y'all! Thanks for the update. I hope the eye drops help and she feels better soon. I remembered after answering you that another member Pati Robbins also had a similar experience with complications after eye surgery. Maybe she could give you some advice.

I think you should see another vet that is a good bully vet. After two months, it should look better, and you shouldn't have to use the eye drops.
