Since it's been so hot lately I've been doing a spa night for Vera instead of going for a walk. Cool towels, scented wipes, treats, on and on. So, the other night as i was cleaning her face wrinkles, i found a little inflamed area. No blood, just red, looks painful, but it doesn't bother her much. I've been putting neosporen (sp) on it and sometimes it looks better, other times more inflamed. Any suggestions? Is there any doggie goop i can put on it to help?

I couldn't get her to sit still for a pic of it.

The inflame areas is yeast. It’s the food. What you feeding Vera? Can be just one ingredient. Add raw liver and/or couple teaspoons of fermented food as toppers.

As Helene said, it’s probably something in the food. Also, diaper rash ointment helps dry the folds

So what is the best food we should be feeding her? How do we avoid this happening? Thanks so much!

Raw is always best if you are willing but if staying with kibble… Zingnature, Open Farm are two of the top brand. Avoid chicken (in kibbles) and potatoes, especially white potatoes,,, some do ok with sweet potatoes but if fighting yeast.. stay away from both

Don't forget about Nustock! Just a tiny little dab will take away soreness and help create an environment that is bad news for infections. It's stinky(think Pinesol and sulfur), but it works great.

Thanks so much. I just bought the food the puppy store suggested. I think it's called Puppy Performance Plus. I've been giving her some people food thinking, we eat good food... so it'll be good for her. I guess not. I feel terrible. So, I'll check on those brands and see if i can get them and cut out people food. Thanks agsin. It is amazing what puppy stores don't tell you. Or, i probably didn't ask enough questions. Sure appreciate your advice!

Don’t stress it… you’re going to learn a whole lot here. Human food is not total no.. it depends on what it is. Definitely no fast or junk foods but a good steak or some cooked veggies, certain fruits

And no potatoes. I thought she'd liked some mashed. Oh brother.
I went to the farm store and found a lady there with three bullys and she suggested some lamb and rice food that i snagged. Also some yeast infection goop. The Nustock came in a huge expensive container. So i opted for a spray. Yay! Got some on her tonight.
You are all so kind. Thanks so much!

Yes.. avoid potatoes for sure, I’m not a fan of rice either, I use egg noodles if needed

Yes, NuStock is a must in any household if you have dogs.

I stress this often, if you can’t do raw as raw isn’t for everyone, at least add daily chopped up raw liver you buy at your grocery stores as a topper on kibbles. You can add ā€œanyā€ raw organs. Add a raw egg every other day, marrow bones, fermented sauerkraut, chicken feet or neck etc.

She loves fried eggs every now and then. Is that ok? Hold the butter, right?
Butter isn’t the issue, it’s the bread

I’m on an acreage n all 3 eats raw eggs mostly everyday. My German Shepherd is daily. She sits at the gate when I go collect the eggs. She knows. Nyala n Jake I crack it in their raw cause Jake, inhales his food n eats out of a slow feeder bowl. The eggshell might cut him. He’s my special case lolll. I just break it all together n they eat the whole thing.
