Are vets expensive in the states? Ralph costs £650 a year to insure and every vet trip is around £50

My bulldog vet charges $49 for an office visit but is a bit of drive. My local vet costs $60! There are also low-cost vets around that are not full service. I use one for yearly shots, heartworm tests etc and they charge $39 for a visit.

We have a dedicated savings account instead of insurance. Monty was 4 yrs old when we got him so pre-existing conditions came into play.

My vet is probably around $50 for an office visit. I will say, other than the inflamed histiocytoma that Louie had on his toe which I made the vet aspirate and then biopsy, his vets bills have been quite minimal (knock on wood). I'm hoping Ella will be just as healthy (fingers crossed). Jax is another story but thankfully we have health insurance for him. However, his vet bills all relate to his IVDD so his regular vet bills are minimal.

Lala...since getting her broken leg fixed...$Zero
MINI...since bring her in...$800 to fix her Distichia
Zoey...since I adopted her...$1500 to remove the edge of a Beach Towel from her stomach

I hate to say it...but I'm pleased with these numbers. Only MINI has had a congenital defect that required a Vet's intervention and the distichia isn't what I consider to be a typical "Bulldog problem".

That's great! Those are excellent numbers.
Our poor Monty cost us $3500 for 3 days in the 24/7 emergency hospital. That did not include his after-care vet visits, tests and meds. Again, worth every penny and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It did wipe out our savings account for them but that was precisely what it was for.

Our vet is 50 for a visit, but since going raw... all we do are wellness checks, vaccines and laser sessions.

I dread to think how many “little” trips to the vets Duds has had in the past 5 years! And they always seem to cost around £60.

:D Dudleys insurance was around the same as Ralphs but in the last 18 months he had a CCL operation and emergency kidney stone operation

His insurance went from £54 a month to £83 after his first operation and then went up again after his second operation is currently at £123 a month

His insurance now costs more than me and my wifes life insurance combined :D cant afford NOT to have it though.

We had insurance on our dachshund as we have had him from a puppy. It kept going up so much and with deductibles etc, we cancelled it and set up our savings account instead. So far, I think we are ahead of the game, even with Monty's bills throughout his life. Fingers crossed that continues!

Agreed... that is what we do, we have a credit card just fro the boys... pay off each time we have to use it
