I have a crate pad in Tucker's crate. Before that he just had an old towel, because it was easy to clean and not a big deal to replace. After spending the money on a crate pad I noticed he started chewing and scratching at it like crazy. I put a towel back over it and he has been fine ever since. As long as he has his towel covering it he is good to go, but without it I am sure my Kong crate pad would not have lasted the first weekend
