I’m really embarrassed to admit I’m struggling with Lunas training.
She’s a clever beautiful girl, she’s learnt a few things quickly, sit took a day, fetch took a couple that one and a few other others were mostly unintentional things I automatically do with any dog and somethings she’s obviously picked up but only does when she wants.
I’m not trying to overwhelm her or train her things she’s not ready for though.

But I’m struggling with the more usual things, the biting , i use toys as to stick in her mouth I’ve got be bloody quick! She gets over excited very quickly I do everything that’s advised.
I recently had a puppy trainer I’ve booked sessions with, the first being a home visit. While some of the advice made sense or I’d already researched some I’m not too sure, In Particular crate training. I don’t disagree with them but have never been a lover of them either.
But after Luna Houdini kept escaping her playpen i decided on the crate as she’s not sleeping enough and when she is it’s only with me. I acknowledge that’s my fault.

The puppy trainer told me one hour eating outside play etc then 2 hours crate. Put all the nice things such as her food water bed and a toy or two. Put the radio on. Cover her crate of course.
What I don’t like she said leave her an hour to cry settle down etc. if she doesn’t take her outside, bring her back to her crate and offer water.
Luna doesn’t just cry after a while she becomes completely distressed and I can not believe that is making the crate a comfortable safe space for her.
After 3 or 4 tries every day ( I can’t make it an hour I feel that’s cruel) I stop. All I can think is she will associate it with bad things. I leave the door wide open put her food in there her bed which she barely used and a couple of toys.
I’m completely at a loss here, she’s destroying everything I’m covered in bite marks, and it’s just constant up and down with her stopping her from getting into everything. I play with her regularly take her outside encourage her to play by her self, she has her own play gym and everything else.

I try to keep all these things to small periods of time. I’m exhausted and I’m doing my best not to become frustrated around her because that will just ramp her up.

Most mums will probably admit to the short term baby blues and baby brain you get that’s how I’m feeling right now.
If anyone can suggest any routines have tips etc i would really appreciate your help.

Embarrassing as it is im feeling quite desperate.

How long does she sleep, in the day. Does she sleep right through the night? also is she getting enough food? I've never used a crate, so no advice on that one. Don't forget Old-TBD pups have a bit more energy than BBDs. Luna is going to be no different to Freya, on that one. Taking on a pup is work in progress, and really time consuming. stick at it it will come good. Listen to your trainer. When she starts biting, try putting her in another room for a few minutes.

She’s not sleeping nowhere near enough through the day. She only sleeps with me and that’s a huge mistake on my part! I think in someways I’ve put my treatment/ experience of older dogs automatically onto Luna. The youngest dog I’ve ever had before was Freya at 10 months old. I had to do a lot of work with her, she only knew sit, lay down and crate. She’d never experienced outdoors except on the pavement 3 times a day! But she wasn’t a baby either. Lunas captured my heart already but it’s stressful this puppy lark šŸ˜‚

Food wise I’m making sure she has the right amount, in fact I’ve upped it slightly at the moment , when she had diahorrea and was sick it took a few days for her to get back to normal and she lost enough weight that her ribs were prominent. Although she’s almost back to normal now.

I’m going to try putting her in another room as you suggested, how long do you suggest leaving her , as each time I’ve tried it she cries scratches the door and toilets . I’m not sure if I’m leaving her too long.
I am listening to the puppy trainer and she is helpful, but an hour in the crate with Luna being completely distressed after 20 minutes of crying I feel is too much . Her little throat gets hoarse bless her. I can’t see how letting it get to that point can turn into something positive.

Night time once she’s finally settled usually after a few put off the bed times she sleeps until around 3 ish when she needs to go toilet the until around 6.30.

Like you Lenny I have no experience of crate training, but I can liken it to babies, I don’t know if you have kids, but you know the difference between them crying for attention and when they’re distressed.
