Help Needed! Recurring UTIs

I heard back from BRAGGS regarding ACV and amino content concern, posting the comment/question and reply below...

"I am unable to find the amino acid content in one bottle of ACV. I am asking for a member of a forum that has a dog with Cystine Stones and decided to stop giving his dog ACV because Cystine is an Amino and he was concerned of the content in the bottle - however, there is no mention of the content on your bottle (I always have a bottle on hand as I love your product. Any input I may offer him? I advocate for dog owners to buy BRAGGS and add a capful to their dog's drinking water or food…If this is a true concern, I would like to be aware. WAnted to go straight to the source (you) for input. Kindly, Laurie"

Completely your choice, ACV it's not always for everyone(dog). This wasn't meant to sway your decision Wes, it was a great point that I wanted to address for future reference and did not have a clear answer. Most of my reading came from dissolving/passing of Calcium Oxalate stones and Struvite stones…I was very curious about your concern w/cystine and amino. This was to follow up for others that have a concern about amino content in the mixture as it is not listed on the bottle.
You can still use it as a rinse though

At this point I am just being cautious about what I give him. His skin allergies did calm down and he didn't seem to have bowel issues as much when he was getting ACV with his food. I am just not sure right now and he would still be getting ACV if the cystine stone issue hadn't happened.

Quick update...went to the vet on Saturday and she said her vulva didn't look like it would need the surgery at all, there is no skin covering it and is very clean. She suggested wiping everyday with malacetic wipes to see if that helps. So we are going to try that and the new food and see if that helps any. I asked her about the food and she said that is mainly for kidney issues and stones but we can see what happens.

I was thinking of you this weekend! Glad no surgery is needed!! Hopefully the issue will stop w/this change, thx for the update and good luck w/the wipes and new food…keep us posted on the progress

Just curious, when you went out of town, did you get a pet sitter or kennel her? Maybe she held her bladder too long and got another infection since she is easily prone?

What food did you decide to go with? There's an interesting read on a homemade dog food (for bladder stones), but it was for a pug w/recurrent UTI's and thought maybe you'd like to read it…Also, if you do suspect stones again, many have sworn by Pedialite to help flush them (I have never tried this, it is just from articles so no personal knowledge).

We had a friend stay with them while we were gone and had someone come let them out for mid-day potty breaks since our friend was at work during the day. So she only went a few hours having to hold it during the day.

I decided on The Honest Kitchen Keen, I just started transitioning her over to it a few days ago so we'll see how it goes! She only had stones the one time and they went away with the antibiotics so the vet wasn't worried about those since they were just the type caused by the infection.

I'm really hoping the new food and wipes help! She said we could also try putting her on estrogen along with the Proin if she is still having issues. After that the only other thing she could think of would be an issue with her ureter but obviously wants to rule out everything else since we would have to go to a specialist for that and pay an arm and leg to figure all that out!! [emoji31]

New update: So we decided to try starting her on the estrogen a couple weeks ago. The vet prescribed DES and said to take one pill everyday for 7 days then once weekly for maintenance. After starting she was perfect with no incontinence the whole 7 days then the first day after not giving it to her woke up and she had leaked in her sleep Talked to the vet and they said to try giving it to her for another 7 days straight. So we did and she was perfect again with no issues. Yesterday was the first day not giving it to her again and of course today she had some leaking while taking a nap ugh. So I'm going to call the vet tomorrow and see what they think. I don't know if this is something she can take daily or not but that seems to be the only thing working!

aw, poor baby…set-backs are the worst! Sounds like it's narrowed down to hormonal then?! Sorry, I can't remember from previous posts…did they check for Cushing or Diabetes as well?

Yes seems to be...still trying to figure it out since she had these issues before getting spayed but they definitively seemed to get worse after. She is still on the Proin for now too, hopefully we will be able to get her off that at least!

No they've never mentioned those. I just looked up the symptoms and she doesn't have any of the others, only the urinary one.
