KMARINO
I couldn't make this sh*t up if I tried!
So, Im sitting here drinking coffee the morning and I get a phone call from Blake Hospital here in our town. I answer and was ask if I was "Kelly Marino" I said yes, well they went on to tell me they had a patient in the ER and needed to be picked up. Im like
. Patient's name is Jerry. Well Jerry is one of my regular's at my bar in his 70's!!
He has no family and is retired. He slipped and fell last night and twisted his ankle. He thought he was going to be OK so he just went on to bed, he woke up about 2 a.m. to pee and when he stood up he fell down. (He goes on to tell me he soiled himself, lol) anyway, he looks down and his ankle is about to bust open it was so swollen.
He called an ambulance and they took him in and ex-rayed, no breaks but tore all his ligaments and tendons connected to his ankle, the hospital just told me he needed a ride home. So I throw on a bra, pulled back a pony tail and off I go. When I get there all the dr's and nurses were all in his room. The orthopedic dr. came in and decided to admit him til Monday when they will do extensive surgery.
Poor guy was in so much pain I just hurt for him, but more than that baffled that he had them call me!?!?? I never questioned him why, but he ask me if I would stay until they got him in his room, which I did. I was there over 4 hours. I just got home and told him I would call and check on him later. He ask me if I was coming back tomorrow to see him and I said of course! He then ask me if I would bring him lunch, LOL.
I am just sitting here letting today sink in, it was kind of weird, but I feel good knowing that I was able to give him some comfort. I don't even know why I am posting this, I guess I am just baffled and trying to let it sink in. He sits with the same 6 guys every day, why didn't he call one of them? I don't even know him out side of work.
Poor guy, I will be with him through all of this now. I guess he trusted me enough to know that I would be there and care. Which I do.
