I am starting to read up on homemade dog food recipes. The Farmers Dog website gives a recipe to make your own, but then says to add a package of their nutrients.. how would you modify this recipe to bring it up to par without having to buy their packet? What would you remove and add? :

How to make homemade beef and vegetables dog food:
Ingredients

1115g (2.5lb) 90% lean ground beef

290g (2 cups) sweet potato - shredded or finely diced

290g (3 cups) carrots - shredded or cut into Ā¼ inch dice

175g (fresh 51/2 cups; frozen 3/4 cup) spinach - chopped

135g (3 large) eggs

14g (1 tbsp.) sunflower oil

1g (Ā¼ tsp.) salmon oil

1 packet The Farmers Dog DIY Nutrient Mix

They only need protein and good oils.
Question, your recipe, how many days does it say it covers?

2.5lb 80% lean ground beef
2 large eggs
1 tbsp coconut oil

OR

-Boil 1 whole turkey for ā€œminimumā€ 8hrs. Keep topping with water as it goes down slowly.
-Cool down n put whole pot with cover in fridge overnight. Remove all fat that solidified on top n discard it.
-Remove the meat from the bones. Set aside.
-Strain broth through a sieve to make sure it caches all fine bones. Cook bones arenā€™t safe for any dogs.
-In a Ziploc MEDIUM size bag, put 1 cup (not packed on) which is approximately 35grams of protein n fill with the broth. Broth is GOLD!
-A dog needs 35% protein n 25% fat (per day)
-Freeze them

Also: Dogs donā€™t need veggies and any seed oils. Seed oils also goes for humans

Thanks. I copied and pasted the recipe earlier but now when I go back to their website, I canā€™t even find it to see how many servings it would be. Odd. šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøā€¦ in what you shared with me, the ground beefā€¦ Is that cooked? I was thinking of replacing the protein with lamb.

I personally would do ground beef raw and Yes can be replaced with lamb.
I like to do the turkey once in a while cause of the nutritional benefits of the bone broth. You can also do it with beef bones.

Up to the individual what or how they want to feed their animals. Cook or not, a bit of raw is better than nothing.

I did some research about this and found that dogs need so much percentages of bone, organs, liver and proteins and vegetables that I decided it would just be too much to take on. I found powdered bone and organs but they aren't cheap so maybe buying them from Farmer's Dog would be easier? We decided to just buy ours one of the foods recommended by the lab that did his allergy panel and his skin is looking a ton better. I would suggest doing some research before attempting to make your own food. This site has some recipes and a lot of info.

Thanks! Fran has been eating raw for almost a year now. Used to be ā€œRawFedK9ā€ but prices went up too high and now she eats ā€œInstinct raw frozen bitesā€ā€¦.but I suspect the cold kibble shaped raw food is the cause of her frequent throwing up, so I was just thinking of trying out fresh cooked food to see how she does with itā€¦ maybe itā€™s the next best thing?

I paid for a ā€œbalanced custom fresh cooked recipeā€ from petdiets.com todayā€¦
12.25 Oz chicken
1 3/4 cup rice
4.5 Oz mixed veggies
1 tsp wheat germ oil
Plus 3 scoops of the add-on supplements that they sell.

I donā€™t know, this recipe doesnā€™t seem that amazing..kind of boring actuallyā€¦.and it just seems like a lot of food for her to eat in a day.
On raw, she was eating just under a pound a day. would I calculate the same serving size with fresh cooked food? Or should I be counting calories? Man I didnā€™t expect to be so lost trying to figure this out lol šŸ˜‚šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚

Iā€™ve attached charts so it gives you an idea on how much protein per day for a dogs weight.

Yes you definitely can cook instead using raw. Donā€™t over cook everything. Also for minerals, use organic bone broth if youā€™re not going to boil a big turkey as mentioned above.
