Harness Recommendations?

I had this problem with Dozer, a regualr harness didn't work because it just gave his something to pull against. I didn't like regular anitpull harness's because I didn't like the idea that they would hurt under his armpits/legpits? With the easy walk the leash clips in front of their chest so if they pull they are turned to the side and can't go anywhere else. No discomfort to the dog =) I put it on him and instantly he walked like a well behaved dog It was a miracle I tell you and no pain rash or discomfort.

Totally agree.. easy-walker are the best. We trained Banks on it and after a few weeks we did not need it any longer as she walked well with out it -- no more pulling.

get a good well fit prong collar. They're great for pulling and help with other obedience training. People often think of them as cruel, but it's safer than having a dog that pulls on a flat collar. Prong collars evenly distribute force around the whole neck instead on just on the esophagus/trachea. Make sure you talk to a trainer or research how to fit it to your dog properly.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys! I ended up getting an easy walk harness for Buster on amazon. Got it for 17 bucks total after seeing them for 30 at the pet store I'll update when it comes in and how it goes!

We are working on Bo's pulling (10 months old) and for us, a harness made the problem worse. As a puppy, Bo made himself almost PASS OUT from pulling on the leash! It scared me to death. Multiple times. It amazed me that the need for air wouldn't over ride the desire to get to the doggie/cat/squirrel/whatever in front of him.

Try a Martingale collar

I saw that on Amazon as well and am thinking of getting this as well. Please do report back on it. My guys tend to pull too and both of them together outweigh me! (well, okay, not really but it sure feels like it!)

i went to a pet store near by and tried one on buster and let him walk around a bit....seems totally legit! whenever he wanted to pull it would turn him around and he would stop. I'm actually excited to get it and use it i'll report back when it comes in.

I am learning everyday from all of you....I ended up purchasing Amazon.com: Puppia Soft Dog Harness (Mesh) Black Large: Kitchen & Dining for TBone. I bought a Medium, but the harness has to slip over his head and probably should have gotten a large. Thanks for asking a great question and for all of the great answers.

When we were working on the pulling with Ruckus we used the Sporn no pull harness. This one went under each armpit and connected on his back. When he pulled it put pressure the front of his armpits, not the chest or neck area.

That's what they're both wearing now. (Really cute ones too. heh heh) Proper use of the martingale or "pulling to the side" has no effect on Bo. He's like a single minded maniac. The martingale worked great for Bea.

Ultimately, that's what I ended up doing - although kind of by accident. I was digging through some old boxes and I came upon a bunch of Mable's stuff. I used a prong collar for her pulling back in the day, and it worked great as a training tool. She didn't wear it very long at all and the pulling was "cured". Yes: a proper fit and knowing HOW TO USE ONE is incredibly important and, I would say, why it worked so well. I forgot I had that thing! (I found a lot of other stuff too - *sniff*) I've just started using it with Bo.

I am going to check out that "Buddy Harness" thing though. I'm interested to see how it works - and if it will work on Bo. I need to find a store that has one so I can test it! He is SO SINGLE MINDED when he sees something he wants to get to....it's hard to imagine a harness working at all for that. And you better believe I have biceps like a body builder from hanging onto that boy. No kidding. People comment on them. hahahaha! Bo made me badass! hahahahaha

I just got his easy walk harness! We took Buster for a walk today and it was spectacular. He literally did no pulling. Everytime he tried to pull us he would turn himself around and stop. With some minor adjustments when he strayed, he had a pretty great walk. I'd say the only trouble we had was him being stubborn and lagging behind I think comparing his 2 most recent walks, the one with the new harness was literally 10 times better.

Thanks for sharing your experience with it...i'm considering getting one for T and F. They mostly pull when they see other dogs approaching and i have a hard time holding on to their leashes when both are trying to pull away from me. I get a lot of "rope burns" on my hands

Yea buster does a lot of the same. i think the best part is, even if he pulls when he sees a dog, he'll stop when he gets to the end of the leash rather than pull you further. I'd recommend it

This is not a shirt. Lari ordered this harness for HRH primarily to make a pattern from it. After pricing out the components I doubt if we are going to make any for sale. lol The Harness is built right in and has velcro and buckles across the belly and chest. It his quite adjustable and fits quite well.
