Hi all! So JoJo is now on the mountain with me and we did great in integrating her with our great Dane and Boston terrier/pug (Bugg) mix. She has been here for a couple weeks now and the house is so noisy with all the Great Dane and English Bulldog play. Our bugg is an old lady, so she doesn't play as much and JoJo was very receptive of learning her boundaries with her, which is awesome. I even caught them playing for a second last night [emoji23]

Anyhow, JoJo's tongue tends to stay out of her mouth more than in (she can pull it all the way in but she has it out most of the time). Given the dryness of the mountain, I've been concerned about her tongue drying out and becoming cracked.

I read online that I should apply a few drops of olive oil a few times per day to help prevent drying.

I currently give her fish oil with there food (actual oil not pills) and she drinks water regularly plus I add some water in with her food.

I do want to start tongue maintenance to our regime but I was a bit weary about using olive oil only because it would be one more thing I would need to buy. I do have Safflower Oil and Coconut Oil in the cabinets. Do you think either of this oils will suffice instead? I am assuming so but I wasn't sure if anyone had insights on utilizing Olive Oil instead? Any extra health benefits?

We had this issue with Nitschke... we used to just poke his tongue with our finger and he would retract. It did eventually come out again, but as soon as we’d see it drying up, poke.. and back in he’d take it

2BullyMama that's what I've been doing now but she loves to sleep with it hanging out so I worry about the overnight factor. Perhaps I'll just "oil up" her tongue before we go to sleep. "Oiling up" sounds so funny [emoji23]

Ruthies tongue was always out and it was adorable. We just let it get crispy cause she would pull it in and wet it herself. Now Brutus is always having his tongue out and it’s red, I keep flicking it and he gets mad and pulls it in.

Your babies are so so so cute. That second photo I just wanna hug her!

Buster usually has his tongue out too. We worried a bit about it at first but there never seems to be a problem once it's lubricated again!

The climate I live in is very dry - like people frequently get nose bleeds from the dryness when they visit, which is why I have a heightened concern.
