Well it's confirmed Brett has mange. Ointment, dips and medicated shampoo.

Walter had demodex mange awhile back… it started as one spot, and we did the ointment. And then the spots began to grow… so we decided to go w/the dips. I was a nervous wreck about the dips, but he actually tolerated them very well. We also use Advantage Multi as our heart worm & flea repellant. It has actually been shown in studies to help w/mange. So far he's been fine… NO more spots. Good luck w/your baby!!!

Would I need vet's prescription for the advantage? Thank you

Totally forgot to ask about heartworm testing. I was too worried. I'll bring it up in 2 weeks

Yes he needs to have the testing done before he gets the meds. Please don't worry too much about the mange, it is extremely common and very treatable in the early stages. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me about it ;)

ddnene are there any side effects using the Mitaban?

@ddnene are there any side effects using the Mitaban?

Unfortunately yes… you can either use the poison topically or take internally. I questioned my vet extensively about it, and she was extremely conservative on her amounts w/Walter. His was spreading, and I was worried that it would get out of control. After his dips he would stay at the vets until he was dry so they could watch for any side effects, but let's face it…. it IS a poison to kill the mites. I would NEVER attempt to dip a dog myself, ONLY under a vets supervision.

I know another member here that used the dips… @RalphieBoy

Brett has been lethargy since this morning. Even peed on my bed. He has never done that before. Is all that normal?

Did he already have a dip?!! And YES lethargy is very normal.

I forgot he's the one that had the mange in his eye area correct?!!

You might want to call the vets office and mention how he's doing… but YES lethargy is a side effect. After his dips Wally would lay around for the rest of the afternoon at times… I seriously wouldn't attempt the dips myself, did he tell you to do that?!!
