We have a 12 week EB puppy. We are taking him to the same vet we have had for our boxers and loved him but I’m not sure he’s the right one for our new guy.
He’s been having real raspy breathing and we’ve taken him the vet for 2 rounds of antibiotics and steroids. The vet seems convinced that it’s just how he is but he can be real phlegmy at times. I think I’d feel better knowing someone with more bulldog experience or at least with a second opinion

Hello and welcome to the forum!

I am down in Maryland, so not too far from some of PA, and we often go up into PA for shows. I know many breeders from up there (actually one of our dogs came from Grampian). I will see if I can find someone. Where abouts in central PA are you located?

Have you spoken with the breeder and had them take a look?
How is he doing eating, drinking, playing? Are you experiencing any vomiting?

We are in Mechanicsburg, just south of Harrisburg.
I haven’t spoken to the breeder, but plan to reach out tomorrow to see if there is anything she can advise or if any of the others reported issues.
He eats, drinks and plays. No real vomiting, although tonight he choked on clear phlegm.

You’re pretty close to the 2024 Bulldog Club of America Nationals, in Gettysburg the week of Thanksgiving. You should consider stopping by!

I will let you know if I hear back with a vet recommendation.

Gettysburg is my hometown:). I’m definitely putting that in my calendar!
Thank you so much, I’m willing to drive for this guy I just need some recommendations where to go.

Definitely change vets. Too much antibiotics will destroy the immune system. Make sure you give the puppy fermented sauerkraut from the fridge not on the shelves. Fermentation builds the gut flora back for a healthier system.

@2BullyMama ..PA?

Definitely get in contact, and stay in contact, with the breeder. The amount of energy that goes into a litter, many breeders like taking an active role when offered, and surely most would like to be kept up to date on their babies.

I have two recommendations from separate breeders in the area:

Dr Stoner. Mechanicsburg Vet Clinic. A very well known breeder from the area has used him for 25 years.

Dr Hartman from Winding Hill in Mechanicsburg. Another well known long time breeder use to go to her when she was closer.

I can’t post breeder recommendations on here but if you want their names for reference you can PM me.

Another note from them:

ā€œIf it’s a breathing issue you should consider going to Penn in Philadelphia. They have an ER, you can walk in and get a specialist.ā€

Thank you so much! Both are very close! I think Dr Stoner was one I saw listed as a recommendation but the practice she was listed at no longer had her on staff. I’m calling tomorrow because watching him struggle is killing me

Yes. I’ve found them and feel so much better knowing I have 2 good options to call first thing in the morning. Thank you so much everyone for your help!

Unfortunately that’s a bit too far. But thank you!

Not sure how close Lansdale is to you, but Dr. Rossi at North Penn animal hospital is great!
This is my vet of 20+ years! I was coming to recommend if she was willing to drive two hours! BTW, another great vet at North Penn is Dr. Goldacker.. she is just like Dr. Rossi! 🄰🄰🄰

Joey's vet, for over 8 years now, is in Hollidaysburg, PA, still a bit of a drive from you but worth it. Send me a message and I will give you her information if you like. Wishing you the BEST in your search!!!
