Gang has you covered pretty well... crates area good thing and I would never not use one at least until after age of 2. Our guys have open crates and they are gated in the room when we are not home... with nothing but their own toys that they can get into.
Also, Ollie is at the phase of, well, think terrible twos.... and will go through it again at around 18-24 months. Rebels and push the envelope.
