Phlegm / Coughing

Hi all,

This is my first post, I would need some advice and help.
We adopted our boy Gus 4 month ago, he's now 6 month old.
About 6 weeks ago he started coughing and throwing up white foam, we took him to the vet who prescribed antibiotics and Mucolytic. He has been on antibiotics for 2 weeks and 6 weeks on Mucolytic.
Unfortunately he is still coughing but not throwing up anymore.
We live in Thailand and have no specialised Bulldog vets, our vet diagnosed Phlegm but we are not sure if this is right.
We have tried lemon juice throughout the past 6 weeks to clear his throat but had no luck.
We have also our air purifier, defuser with essential oils running all day.
He still coughs during the day but especially when he wakes up in the morning and after each meal.
Other than that he's very healthy and active.
His diet consist of Orijen Puppy and fresh fruits and veggies as snacks.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

[MENTION=19660]ToddB[/MENTION] hello n Welcome 2 weeks of antibiotics is a lot. Any dog even humans when taking antibiotics you also need to take a good probiotic so the gut flora stays balanced. That being said puppy basically need an x-ray seeing what’s going on in there. Do you hear any rumbling when he breathes? It’s not the diet either as you’re feeding him right.

If it's an aspiration pneumonia, it's treated for a long time, ie. 1 week past radiographic resolution (typically 3-4 weeks). This means Vet should do an X Ray to make sure it's cleared up, then continue antibiotics for one week past that. Saline nebulization is useful, as is inhaling steam in the shower.

Your dog could have an elongated soft palate if it's an aspiration pneumonia. You really need a bulldog vet to treat that kind of problem.

He has got the occasional rumbling but usually only just before he coughs. It does sound like he's trying to clear mucous everytime he coughs.
His breathing is good and he is only panting after exercise.
Will head back to vet today and get xrays sorted.

If this remains persistent...classic symptoms of enlarged soft palate.
