Heat lamps and whelping box

Hey folks so putting my whelping box together using heat lamps on a pully system having trouble getting the temperature right has anyone any suggestions

Oh wow… I had a heat lamp that was on a stand, and I put it on one side of the box so if the babies got too warm they could go to a cooler area. You have 3 lamps under there?!! I will tag members w/more experience…

Three lamps seem a little much. I have seen people use just on lamp, and on the side like [MENTION=9157]ddnene[/MENTION] said, so if they get too warm, they can move to the other side. We don't use heat lamps, we use a small box with IV bags that we heat in the microwave and put blankets on top of them so the pups will not get too hot and monitor the temp with a thermometer.

That is a great idea about the IV bags… learn something new EVERY day on here!!! Lol

In East Tennessee we use heat lamps for indoor agriculture. Plants do really well... Ralphie

Yea I might take one of the lights out before pups arrive or perhaps switch them out for the red bulbs pups not due for a couple of weeks so its just me messing about trying to get it right before the little ones arrive thanks for the input guys much appreciated

I forgot to mention that we used a red bulb… maybe they hold the heat better?!!

Right I think I have it finally just have to crank it up tomorrow see if heat is the same
