Hi All
looking for some food advice. BEAR is my third bullie i have had and know how special they are when it comes to food lol. Bear has been gaining weight lately. He's about 70 pounds and he's a year and a half. Also he has folliculitis I've taken him to my vet numerous times and all the tests come back negative for staff and bacteria, etc.. I've had him on several types of food, including Zignature, stella and chewy now he is on honest kitchen beef with grain. He doesn't really seem to like it so much so I sprinkle on a little bit of the Stella and chewy magic dust. on it Anyways, I'm trying to get him to lose a few pounds and wondered if this food is causing the folliculitis. My doctor wants to put him on royal canine or Purina, but I feel they are so over processed and I want to keep him healthy for a long time. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What proteins were you using when feeding Zingnature? if you didn't I would try a duck or turkey single protein formula. You can also look into Open farm.

Also, how much do you feed at each meal? The bag suggestions is usually too much

on zignature I had him on salmon and then venison I did an allergy test that said he was allergic to both of those ..right now I'm giving him a cup twice a day of the honest kitchen, beef and oat mixture. he seems to be gaining weight, which was not my intention. I try to take him for a walk up the road, but a lot of times he doesn't even wanna go for a walk.

I did try the open farm beef with grains, and he wasn't too fond of it

Dogs are not meant to eat grains, oats, flour, gluten etc…From what I’m reading of your posts, you would basically need to stick to just protein. Bone broth like mentioned is full of minerals. Great stuff even for humans. Nyala 9.5yrs ish old, eats 3/4 lb of raw per day and was starting to gain weight. As she aged, seems 3/4 was too much for her. She sleeps a bit more now. 2months ago, I cut it to 1/2lb. She lost over 5lbs, she runs a bit more and can keep up when we walk a few acres around the house. To lose weight, cut the food. But don’t cut the nutrients. In my case, treats are dry beef strips or dry beef liver. I stick to proteins.

Our local bulldog club provided us with samples of a brand of dog kibble that was new to us…..Lucy brand food , and they’re out of California. They have several different protein combinations, treats, etc….we are on our second order and have been pleased ….our two bullies absolutely love the food, and as many on the forum have commented, we supplement the kibble with fresh veggies, blueberries, liver
You can purchase directly from Lucy , and Chewy has it available as well.

When I got Buster he was a bit overweight. The vet had me cut his food down (Zignature) to 1/3 cup with green beans topper, twice a day. The weight came off slowly but surely. He was 6.5 years old and had low energy. He also got the occasional egg or chicken livers.
