8 month old bulldog has prolapsed urethra

my 8 month old bulldog has prolapsed urethra does anyone have any info on this or experienced this and if they know any good vets in the toronto, area that will perform this surgery, my vet has never seen one before and never performed surgery of this before.

There's a vet in Campbellville (Milton area) that sees a lot of bulldogs and might be worth looking into. Ask for Dr. Ball though, he owns the clinic and has far more experience than the other vets.

I found him by emailing the Bulldog Club of Central Canada. Maybe email the club too to see if there are other specialists in the area.

Our 4.5 month old EB was just diagnosed with the same thing last week. We went to two vets and they both said to just leave it be for now. Two days in a row he woke up with blood on him from where he was bleeding. It was pretty scary. The vets said that if it gets worse they can either put the prolapsed part back inside and put in a small suture but that with this treatment the issue often reoccurs. The other option, if it gets worse, would be to cut off the prolapsed part through surgery. In the last couple days it seems to be getting a bit better so I'm hopeful that we won't need surgery. Please keep us posted on how things go.

I am so sorry how scary for you both. Your vet did not have a referral of who you could go to?

I am guessing antibiotics do not help? Please let us know how it all goes. I think I would freak if that happened to any of my furkids. I wonder what causes it?

One of our Rescue bullies has had this surgery...twice! He is only 2 After the 2 surgeries and his neuter, he is doing much better. The Vet actually consulted with Purdue University Vet Hospital. Maybe your Vet can consult if there isnt another experienced Vet in your area?

One thing my vet did mention was that antibiotics COULD help as it can reduce the swelling and allow things to go back to normal. He also said that some dogs have the issue their whole lives and it doesn't really manifest itself or need correction. Is the surgery very invasive? Since our dog is only 4.5 months, there is some thought that neutering will help as well.

well the vet diesel on a female hormone pill which will. reduce his testosterone levels and reduce his excitement around other dogs. that was most likely the cause of this problem over exicetment around other dogs and humping. so we are looking into surgery cause that seems to be the only solution hopefully it will work but the vet says to wait about 2 weeks so he is more relaxed and to see if these pills help
