Hi all,

I am taking my first trip the US in December. My partner has been a few times with the RAF.

We are planning this route. We have a car and are staying in hotels. Planning on getting to New York for christmas and New Orelans for new year.

Anywhere good to visit along the way?
Any places that are a must to visit for food?
Where is good for xmas day dinner in New York?

Any recommendations would be appreciated

WOW... that is a LOT of territory!!! New York at Christmas will be amazing!!! I could give you a list of things here in TN for sure... the Smokey Mountains are beautiful, and if you are interested in country music Broadway & 2nd Ave is the place to be in Nashville. In the DC area I would recommend the Smithsonian and the Air & Space Museum. DC has SO many things to see...

Whenever I visit a new place, I always depend on TripAdvisor... I have the app on my phone. They give you the BEST recommendations for places to stay, restaurants and tourist attractions. I did our entire trip to St. Louis based on TripAdvisor and we had the BEST spring break.

I hope you have a wonderful time visiting the states!!!

Nice! You know, I giggled reading your post. Reminds me of my in-laws in UK when they told us...ā€we’re coming for a visitā€. I was in Montreal Quebec back then n my sister in law wanted to see the Rockies n drive there. Told her takes 3 days to drive to AB or 4to Vancouver...She really didn’t make the link how massive North America was... She was staying only 10 days lol.. cute

I use to go to the US often. Montreal is right above New York. How long you’re staying? From your map I see it’s going to be a long vacation n driving. Definitely you should stop in NY. Stay on the tourist side or to see most of the best touristic area go with tour guides/buses etc... you want to see beautiful sceneries Montana Colorado. You’ll be in the Rockies. New Orleans is fantastic. My son was there last year and loved it. California yes for sure.. You probably know all this but....Bare in mind winter in some area of the USA is harsh. Like Canada. Driving can be a challenge. As you know North America can get a lot of snow n sure can be cold. Need proper gears/wearables. Central USA, now this is my opinion, some places was ok but nowhere near like the coastline. (Less snow too). I personally like any states that sits along the coast. I’m a water person :) But members in here will guide you more as I didn’t visit all. :)

This is great thank you. Any recommendation are much appreciated.

Will definitely look into the Smokey Mountains. I will look for somewhere to stay around 2nd Ave and Broadway in Nashville

I am currently trying to find somewhere to stay 23-26th in New York with parking as we have a hire car.

Sounds like a great trip! How many days have you set off? As helsonwheels says, the US is a big country and unless you want to drive for many hours a day, I hope you set off enough time! I would probably go for a more southern route to see the beautiful scenery of eg Arizona and New Mexico.

brutus77 NYC suggestions?

Well Amy...Crab Cakes in Maryland (https://gandmcrabcakes.com/ ). I live just north of "F" in Jessup, MD "F"oxtrot I am assume is Washington D.C. I am 2 miles from Interstate 95 between Baltimore and Washington. The Prime Rib is great for a steak https://www.livecasinohotel.com/loc...rime Rib (B)&gclid=CJPy5fPQwucCFQoDiAkdPy8KFQ .

Tell your partner I have a unit crest for the Royal Medical Corps under the King's Crown that I received from "Staff" when training in Paderborn, FRG. I drank with the Brits and Canooks and failed miserably to keep up. That's right it's not training if it is not raining.

Let me know.

We are going for 4 weeks. I hope this will be enough time.

Looking at changing the route from Las Vegas and heading through Albuquerque, Amarillo, Oklahoma, Springfield towards Chicago. Then up to Niagra Falls before New York instead.

Booked tickets for Alcatraz and Graceland too.

In Amarillo, go to the Big Texan Steakhouse. https://www.bigtexan.com/ The restaurant will pick you up at your hotel and take you back. We rode in a Cadillac that had longhorns on the front hood. Steaks are great. I had the 20oz Ribeye medium rare.

Get some green chili when in Albuquerque.

Pretty country in the mountains around Flagstaff, Az. You might even see purple mountains majesty. You have a long trip ahead of you. My wife and i went on a whirlwind roadtrip in 2013. We needed 4 days to recover from the ride. Maryland to Colorado Springs to Amarillo to Austin to Yoakum to Corpus Christi to Lafayette La to New Orleans to Gulfport Ms to Hilton Head SC to Selma NC to home. This does not include some sight we stopped for. 2 weeks and about 6,000 miles.

I hope you both have a great time.
