potential little sister for Victoria (3 yr old spayed olde english bulldogge).

Potential new addition is a 1 yr old female american bulldog, about 50 lb (23 kg). Shelter dog, shelter staff indicates she is a shy but friendly, we actually saw them walking her when we pulled into parking lot, and our eyes met and I talked to her for a moment across the way (just nonsense, no idea at the time she might become ours)

I know the potential little sister is not english bulldog, but american cousins are close, right? And, she actually has a tail !

we are hoping two females will get along (both will be spayed, shelters here only adopt out if dog is spayed). there was a beautiful ripple colored male Am bulldog, but he was A LOT of dog, 90 lbs (41 kg), 2 yrs old. we worried that there might be some friction, as victoria thinks of herself as alpha (she even has tried to mount other dogs), and she can be very territorial (she thinks both sides of our street along the entire block belong to her, and lets dogs being walked by know it).

Hoping things go well, fingers crossed!

Hoping things go awesome for you! We had two girls who were perfect together, and then we had two that fought. It was rough. I have been told two females are harder to get along than a male and a female or two males, but not everyone has the same experience. Best wishes!

we brought Sunny home last night, everything went pretty well.

introduced her and victoria in the backyard, victoria barked once at Sunny as victoria entered backyard, but once she realized we accepted her, and it was the same dog she met the night before by smell, all went well. still some jealousy (victoria tries to get in between Sonny and each of use), but off the leads, victoria did try and play some, jumping on sonny, getting down in a crouch in front of here (all with tail stub wagging).

Sunny has issues with stairs and thresholds inside but gradually getting used to our house, lots of roaming around sniffing. Feeding her and victoria separatey. sunny did last night steal a bowl of cat food of the elevated bench where we feed them (so victoria does not eat their food), took it away and gave her a firm NO.

Sunny does not seem to get the pet fountain yet (we have one large shared water fountain for the animals, small house), so we have a water bowl next to her crate.

Crate was a real struggle, both times we put her in so far. she will have to learn. We rarely close door on victoria's crate any more or tell her to do lay down (which is synonymous with get in your crate), but for now, until Sunny gets used to the house, it is for her own safety when we are not home or at bedtime (I work from home, so she will likely only be crated for now when we feed victoria).

She met all the cats but one (the one cat is very timid, will probably mostly hide in basement for several days). The one does not like her, hissed, but that one likes nobody thinks he is alpha of the house because he is male and/or oldest, but still hasn't learned that first comes hierarchy, Dog>Cat. Swats at Victoria for no real reason as well (victoria does run towards all the cats, but simply wanting to play, tail/but always wagging, and when they run, she thinks they are playing).

Will be hand feeding for month or so (all family members including the one BF of my youngest daughter have hand fed her at least one handful, with victoria watching) integrating some basic training with feeding (sit, come; stay to follow in a couple weeks).

Sunny has not made a single peep other than piggy noises, did not cry in crate, just resisted. One rather large combined accident this morning on floor in living room (frustratingly about 10 minutes after I had brought her in after a 10 minute session in our yard), took her over right next to it by collar, firm NO, and onto lead and right outside.

Pretty certain she has a little pitty mixed in her, she is completely buff/ripped (as opposed to our rounder/softer victoria), only 50 lbs, but as tall/long as victoria (80+ lbs, she needs to lose a little, we are outside less with shorter walks in the ungodly heat of July). Super strong, but not aggressive at all (measured her strength trying to get her to come up our front stairs to the porch.

About as good as can be expected so far :p🐶+🐶
