    Default NEVER GIVE UP

    -mommy-oliver-jpg
    Hi Everyone!
Well tonight is the night . our first Cytopoint shot! Poor Oliver ( he is almost 4) has had HORRIBLE allergies. he is allergic to .. well lets just say everything.
Last year after a night of blood all over from him rubbing his eyes and skin so bad and being on Apoquel for a while we put him on a low dose steroid. I tried many times to wean and as soon as day two came , blood everywhere .
I was at my wits end. THEN two months ago he got terrible hot spots ( lesions ) which I knew after researching was from his immune system being so suppressed.
I was in a panic, we have spent thousands on so many things and didn't know what to do. So I called my best bud English bulldog friend @2BullyMama and she suggested RAW.
LONGGGGG story short. he is almost a month OFF steroids, tonight getting the cytopoint shot , his hair is growing back ( thanks to Nu Stock- stuff is a miracle cream! ) and good nutrition. I also supplement him with Tumeric and last night added vitamin D. We love our Oliver so much. its exhausting, expensive as all heck and so frustrating but I am glad for his progress so far and will update how he does on shot. I want him off the Apoquel now.

    Wish us luck!!!

Good luck!! My Frenchie Jax gets the shots about every 10-12 weeks and it has been such a life saver. He is allergic to everything green outside and used to scratch himself raw as well.

I sympathize with you. Bentley is the same way. He is now on Immunotherapy. We had his blood tested and it turns out he is allergic to 16 species of trees, 11 types of grass, and much more crap I have not heard of. He had Cytopoint injections that helped but still needed Apoquel. He is still on small doses of Apoquel as well with the Immunotherapy. It would probably help if you knew what the allergens are that is contributing to Duke's misery. See a Dermatologist and have Duke's blood tested. I know the cost is a PITA, but I know we are making head way on Bentley's derm issues.

    What is Immunotherapy?
A dermatologist/immunologist will develop serums to be given to build up an immunity to the allergens. Long process it is. Bentley's allergies are not food related as of yet but more environmental

Most health issues and/or problem solved, are in here. Youíll find most of the repetitive health issues on this website. Itís a lot to read for sure but...then youíll go...ahhhhhh I see..... Definitely yes if people can divert to raw, even if itís ďnotĒ a food issue, your dog will encounter less health problems. Itís not 100% bulletproof but sure helps enormously to get back on track. Time n patience..

After Jax was allergy tested he was put on allergy shots as well as Apoquel. However, once we started Cytopoint, he didn't need the allergy shots anymore.

A much less expensive way to get into immunotherapy is with sublingual or injectable Respit. It doesn't require skin testing to determine the environmental allergies since you get a product that covers all the allergens in a particular region. Any vet can order it, you don't need a specialist. Immunotherapy takes the longest of all the therapies to work, so it might be good to start it at same time you start giving Cytopoint, then stop the Cytopoint after the immuntherapy kicks in, eg.in 3 months, if you decide to go the immunotherapy route.

I would recommend Cytopoint over Apoquel as it's safer, although the vets won't tell you that.
