Hey guys
I was wondering if anyone has some experience with this or some advice.
We have had Bacon since the middle of September and we got him when he was about 9 weeks old. We got him from a breeder who seemed to know a lot about the breed and also care about the breed. Since we have been having issues she has avoided me, which is very frustrating, specially when we spent so much on him, and we really thought we were getting him from a good breeder.
Since then we have had him we have had a handful of issues. Our first issue was allergies, which we got managed with switching his food. Then we ran into the biggest problem have have faced which is Cherry eye. Bacon got it in his left eye first. He was rough housing when it happened. The cherry eye then got infected, so we had to wait to do surgery til the infection cleared up. We had to put ointment in his eye multiple times a day for a week. After the week we took him in to see if the infection cleared up, and it did so they proceeded to do the surgery. Long story short we continued to have problems for several weeks including lots of discharge and then an ulcer, and we were to the point of having to take Bacon to the vet every week for over a month. Then the stitch ripped and the cherry eye popped out again. The vet insisted we do the surgery again, and this time stitch his eye almost completely shut for a week. That surgery has worked so far.
Now his right eye has popped out and we have decided to wait to do the surgery because we had such issues with the first one. This eye popped out for absolutely no reason, no rough housing, no real activity, it just popped out. We luckily haven't had serious issues with this eye, but i am also aware of what to look for this time around.
Recently I have noticed Bacon limping a lot and walking funny. He isnt overly active, so i know he didn't hurt himself. We are very careful with him and how we pick him up and put him down, so i know we did not cause any problems. The most troubling thing to me is that his hips literally pop in and out of the socket. He will be up on the couch and stand up from sitting down and his hips pop. When he walks his hips pop. I am worried this is a sign of something more serious. Bacon is only 5 1/2 months old, and he still has a lot of growing left to do.
What would you all recommend? Has anyone encountered an issue with hips like this. If its nothing serious and just part of him growing I dont want to spend the money taking him to the vet for them to tell me it will go away with time, but if it is something that is more serious I am going to try and contact my breeder again and see what she say, and hopefully this time she gives me an answer. I am also going to look over my contract more closely and see what all is covered. Im not trying to cause problems with her, I'm just trying to get and keep Bacon healthy.
