    Default Parvo

I need some advise, my breeder and I are having words because there are 2 cases of parvo in my town. I live in a small town in the middle of no where our population is about 3,500 so I would say 2 cases is pretty good! I called the only vet we have here and she told me in the last few months they have seen 2 cases. Me being the smart person I am and now regretting it, I asked my breader how to prevent parvo and what I needed to do so we talk and she tells me how its passed along with some safety info which some of it the vet already told me. This come about because a guy that comes into the sports bar my friend works at (she has a 8 week old bulldog) told her his dog had parvo so we both wanted info on how to keep the dogs safe, so I figure my breeder has been doing it for a while now and grew up with dogs so I'll get some info from her just to be safe. Now my breeder is telling me she want to keep the dog a few weeks longer because there is to much of a risk here. Keep in mind she lives in a city in Utah and has kids coming in and out of her house or at least she did when I was there, the neighborhood kids wanting to hold the dogs. Lola will have her first shot when I get her but now she is saying she thinks its a good idea to keep her tell the 3rd shot and that is so not ok with me! We have snow here by mid september or at the latest end of september so I want to get Lola home and a good start on potty training before winter. What can I say or do to calm her and let her know I have common sense? I know not to take the dog out, I have a fenched yard that will be the only place she goes! Also you can get shots every two weeks or every 4 weeks what did you guys do? Sorry for the mini vent but I have been waiting for Lola for a long time and I wont wait any more! She gives a lifetime health gaurentee contract and she mentioned it wont be covered it she gets it which makes perfect sense to me because its not something she was born with I just need some ideas on how to ease her worries. I made it very clear that I would be there on the 25th of July as we have agreed to and if not I want a full refund. She didnt tell me no but she did rush off the phone. She also sends me pictures every day of her and I havent gotten any in two days since that conversation. I need help! Im freaking out!

I forgot to mention she lives 4 hours from me so it would be 4 hours there 4 hours back and I have to head that way the 25th because my husband is flying out so I wanted to grab her while I am there instead of making a special trip because thats 8 hours in the care plus whatever time I am at her house that makes for a long day! Im trying to figure out a way to work together so I dont lose Lola im a little attached lol.

Take a deep breath..... call and calmly tell her you totally understand her concern, appreciate it, but you know the precautions to take and you need to stick to the schedule that was agreed upon for all the reasons you stated... potty, snow, husband, timing.

Just had a long post and lost it! I think the smart thing to do is to give her a couple more days and see if she starts sending picks again and give her some time to calm down. The vet told me no matter where you live there is a risk of parvo all that you can do is get their shots, dont take them out, and be a respossible owner. We will see in time how this plays out. Have any of you on here that have bred bully's ran into issues before?

Well just be patient, the breeder is very concerned about her pups, as I would be. Parvo is serious, but it can be anywhere. Try to find out from your vet where the dogs with Parvo lived. If they were across town, maybe it will make your breeder feel better about letting you take her. If not then she is just trying to protect her pups as any good breeder should.

I understand her protecting her pup but there has to be a time when you trust who your selling your pups too.

Parvo is so contagious that it can be carried on shoes. The breeder may freak out at the very word. It can take out a litter of pups in a matter of a day. Maybe she'll calm down in a day or so?

Parvovirus is a very huge concern for any breeder or any dog, I do not allow anyone to wear shoes in my house because it could come from anywhere. I have heard of breeders losing entire litters from it. I know it sounds like your breeder is being cruel but think of the positives- she cares. And that is a good thing. Talk to her calmly and tell her your thoughts.

I'm sorry but I think that as parvovirus is so contagious and anyone can bring it in on thier shoes the breeder is over the top,you are aware of the risks and would not put your pup in harms way,the problem is you need to have the pup before 12 weeks for socialising reasons, after 12 weeks pups retain what they learn and some habits can be hard to break,I would not be happy if I were told I would have to wait a few weeks simply because there have been 2 parvovirus cases where you live, you trust the breeder and she should trust you,I hope you get this problem sorted ,karen

I have texted her everyday for 4 weeks and she has sent pictures daily also we talk over the phone once or twice a week. I also have went and seen Lola a couple time staying a couple hours chatting. My point is she should know me well enough by now to know I wouldnt put her in harms way. Anyway im going to give it some time and hopefully I will be getting her the 25th!
