Thread: Painful spondylitis of the spine

@TooTooMommy My Tuney doesn't really miss jumping or even taking walks. However, Tuney didn't have a life of play before we rescued her. She was a baby maker. She lived in a crate in a garage. She was not familiar with playing. If Tuney had it her way she would still be jumping up on everything. We prevent that by remembering to put pillow on the chairs, & gating off the part of the couch that is not ramped. We ramped both the front and back steps too. With the daily regimen of gabapentin and tramadol, Tuney seem comfortable and happy. She goofs around by steeling something in the house that is not hers (usually a shoe or boot) and parades it in front of us as to say " look what I have" She seems to almost giggle as she does it. So we play along. There are times when suddenly she will limp because she did too much that day. (She also has bad knees and mild hip dysplasia) I have carried her to outside and to her bed making sure she doesn't have more pain. With rest she is usually better the next day. I see a happy girl. Who loves to be sassy. Everyday she parades a shoe or boot in front of me, is a good day. Trust me. If for even a minute I thought the pain was too much. This girl would be at a specialist to look at options. Make adjustments. Play in short very limited (rolling the ball and short distance rather than throwing it) He will be happy to just be playing and will get used to it being his new norm. BTW Tuney also turned 8 this year. Sending you love and positives.

checking if I got the right one as I see a couple things in this one that I question..... it's by "wellesse" extra strength berry flavor (I don't even know if there were diff flavors... in fact, I didn't even know it was flavored ;/ one of those rush through Costco things)... any way, it has two things I'm not sure about.... sucralose, and erythritol ... they are low on the list but thought sucralose was a no no???? thanks for any insight...

I dont give it every single day. I will jump days as she eats well.

Is sucralose or maltedextrin poisonous to dogs?

@TyTysmom......Thank you for asking.....he's not showing any improvement, sadly I just re-read your post about Tyson and his meds and laser treatments----how is he doing these days?

    He's now been
on Prednisone and Antibiotic for almost two months. Depending on his next exam and Xrays, he MIGHT
be continued on both meds for another month. This vet is a bulldog specialist----he is EXCELLENT, so of
course, we totally trust him. We look forward to sweet Meaty NOT being on Prednisone anymore!

He's also getting glucosamine/ condroiton supplements, and we'll ask the vet about some laser treatments and future meds.

Thanks for the update. Tyson's been on the Galliprant for a week & half now. Seems to be doing well so we'll be switching him over to it from Rimadyl. The rimadyl is known for causing liver/kidney issues so I'd rather pick something safer for him. Of course safer also means double the price

Oh the things we do for our babies. I pray Meaty starts to improve soon, it's wonderful having a great vet. Praying that they find the perfect combo for him. He's such a sweet boy. Please give him a huge hug from me!!!!

Has the vet thought about using alternative meds and moving off the pred?

    Will laser help at all?

Hello.....I APPRECIATE everybully's replies so far !!! Hoping to see if anybully else has experience with this?

@2BullyMama....At Meaty's next appointment, we'll ask about Laser treatments....this vet DOES have laser--there was a time
when I took Meaty for laser treatments for his poor EARS three times a week, and it helped. I'm actually surprized the vet
hasn't mentioned it for his spine, though? We cannot WAIT for poor Meaty to be OFF of the Prednisone !!!

Until we see updated x-rays at Meaty's next visit in 2 weeks, we don't know what the vet's plan is. We'll also go to our other vet that we trust (and love!) and see what he says. I'm praying / hoping that some (or ALL) of the meds and laser treatmetns all of you have mentioned (Tramadol, Gabepentin, etc). will help our sweet guy! Thanks again, everybully!
