Oh my gosh, poor little guy!!!! How big was the dog that did that to his ear? He should have been with smaller dogs for sure. I know scuffles happen, but whoever is watching the dogs should know how to break things up faster and generally just prevent this sort of thing all together.

She was a bigger dog but not huge. I don't necessarily blame the daycare but definitely think things could have been handled differently.

UPDATE: Just spoke to neurologist and she is the one that did his surgery. She said Jax had a good range of motion and was not showing signs of pain, no trembling, he was walking and standing just fine. She said it was very possible he aggravated something in his spine during the scuffle and recommends crate rest for a few days. If he shows signs of pain despite the crate rest or if he gets worse, then she recommended bringing him back and they would do an MRI, but did not recommend an MRI at this time based on her exam. And I do know that sometimes a dog with IVDD just needs crate rest if there is a mild episode. So let's hope a little rest is all he needs cause I know I could use some rest too!

Now...who wants to take Louie while we rest...hahahaha! @helsonwheels I am sure Duke would love to have his brother from another mother come and visit for a week...hahahahahaha!!!!

And I basically demanded that he be seen by the neurologist that did his surgery. So I left him there and at some point today the specialist will see him. I just don't trust ER vets. And yeah, I am hoping it's just trauma or maybe pain from his ear but the fact that he was trembling literally ALL night constantly and that it was his back end and legs is what has me worried. Dogs can become paralyzed from IVDD so I would rather be safe than sorry. So now I just wait for the phone call. My poor guys has just been through so much. And I haven't been able to sleep or rest since this all happened in July because after that I had to find a house and then move and now I am living in the middle of a million boxes and can't find anything. I am EXHAUSTED and need a break.

And after this incident, I am done with daycare. Especially after the owner's attitude about Jax not listening to "leave it." I am livid. Now let's hope the owner of the other dog will pay the $300 vet bill for his stitches.
So sorry to hear what happened. Maybe you can get a good day care person who will watch your dog exclusively on Rover.com ?

Hey I would take him anytime. Hmmmm Seattle isnt that far from me. Im glad he's back on track. I doubt the owner will pay anything. Like mentioned if there's a contract...you need to read it. But they're dogs. I recall my GS the only one that would keep him was the RCMP (Royal Canadian mountain police) as they work with GS. Lady said that I needed to sign a contract that if something happens to another dog cause of Major im responsible. I said NO...I knew Major would rip any dog apart. I told her " He WILL attack all your dogs". YOU sign me a contract to KEEP him away from all dogs! Was the other way around. Lol So Major always would play with the employees one on one. He loved people but not animals of any kind. Why daycares, parks are out of the question for Nyala n Duke.

Sent email this morning and have heard nothing. The owner of the daycare had said Nola’s owner would pay as if they had a conversation. But who knows. I won’t hold my breath. I’ll submit to insurance if I don’t hear back.

And no more daycare. Jax and Louie can play with each other, we’ll play with them, walks when we’re not getting dumped with rain. It will all be fine and will save me money.

Why I got Duke to keep Nyala occupied. But I think he keeps me more occupied than Nyala lollll
You know, deep down they are great for one another. Im sure yours can do the same without going to daycares. I bring them with me on deliveries or my sons homes to play with their dogs or one of my son as you know comes over with his dogs. Da cousins! There's always ways to figure out how to keep them busy. Just need to help them out or they will become lazy. Not healthly. Why I try to walk earlier in the morning before I start my day as I work 7 days a week these days. So I still find ways to keep them busy.

Firstly, thank goodness that Jax wasn't hurt worse. A ripped ear is fairly common in a dog scuffle.

The owner is living in fairy land if they think that the command "leave it" will stop an altercation driven by adrenaline. Once the level of chaos and excitement reaches a certain point, only physical intervention can stop it before serious injury. If the owner were to put EVERY dog in her day care facility in a similar scenario, next to none would respond to "leave it". I'd bet my so so reputation on it.

And it would concern me that Nola, able to lift Jax by the ear, is even allowed to be out with dogs so much smaller...large dogs with large dogs and small with small.
The owner needs to focus attention on better training of the staff.

    Who says Bulldogs can't fly?

@Cbrugs - Citty, Ellie and I have been following along, glad to here Jax is on the mend. Hope you are getting some rest as well.

How scary, Ellie did daycare for a bit as well, she LOVED it, but kept getting Kennel Cough!!

Was easy for mommy to not run home at lunch, but we ditched it as well, mommy's gas is cheaper.

We got nanny cam's and soon ms Ellie, will start to get run of the house, till the sitter starts coming.

    Thanks and much Love,

    Melissa - Ellie's Mom
