Howdy everyone,
apologies if I've mentioned this before, but particularly as the weather warms up I look for ways to keep my bulldog mentally stimulated (since our walks are a bit shorter in the summer time).
We have a game we like to play inside, and it's called "find treat". It...
Thanks everyone!
He has minimal to no tear stains, no upset stomachs, and no gas. He does shed a lot, but I assume that's because he's pretty much all white -- so the shedding is obvious. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.
I've had Nelson on Fromm's pork and peas for almost a year now, and while it has done well for him, I wonder if I need to rotate in different proteins/flavors on occasion.
If so, how often do folks normally do this?
Please note, he does get a lot of food in addition to his kibble, IE some...
You're going to get a few different types of responses here, but one key point is that you will need to keep a very close eye on your bully to avoid overheating.
I live in central Tx, where it certainly gets hot. During summer, Nelson and I walk late at night (around 11pm) for about 20 minutes...
We have made some progress.
Since he knows when the kong is filled, and will go after it at that point, I've started calling him just a bit before it is empty.
Then have him "find kong" again, and he runs back to it. He will now occasionally do this even without a filled kong.
This is my...
Are you in the same area as your breeder? (basically, do you think the allergens are the same/similar?)
This really does sound like an allergy issue. It could be to food/grass/dust etc, it could also be due to hormonal changes with him (ie puberty) depending on when these symptoms started...
Good day all,
I would like for my bulldog (Nelson) to learn a new command/suggestion. Namely, he loves his Kong ball (when it contains food) and I would like for him to find it for me, so that I can refill it on occasion.
As most of you know, or are learning, bulldogs are highly...
Nelson is typically home by himself around 9hrs each weekday as well. He is a bit older (almost 6) so definitely not a puppy, but we have had no problems. He was 4yrs old when I got him but was able to adjust really quickly.
I'm convinced that he sleeps the entire time I am away. On days I...
Nelson devours his food in 10-15 seconds then stares back at me as if I am starving him to death.
He gets fed 1 cup in the morning and 1 cup in the evening. He also gets numerous treats / vegetables / fruits.
He is not food aggressive, as I can take his bowl etc. I also have him sit and wait...
HAHA!
Once the weather gets warm, he'll be limited to just his daily walks, which we take either late at night, or early in the morning. As spring approaches I thought it would be nice to get him out and about a bit more. Plus, it seems like it will be a good workout for me.
So now I need to...
Good day all,
While Nelson and I have our daily walks of 30-45 mins, unfortunately, I need a bit more exercise.
The problem is that once I get home, I hate not including him in activities, so I tend to not go back out.
I've been looking at getting a dog carrier/cart that I can...
Thanks for the responses everyone!
It does seem like this could be an issue with more than one dog in the house so maybe that is where my readings went astray.
Since it's just he and I, and he doesn't display any bad behavior, more couch time for him!
(also, I don't let him on the coach every...
Good day all, and happy new year to everyone!
In a few different places I have ready that "extended petting" can lead to some behavioral issues with dogs.
I have NOT seen evidence that this causes undesired behavior in Nelson, but wanted to see if others had feedback on this topic.
At least a...
It really is the "pass by other dogs" thing that has me concerned. It seems like an unnatural behavior for a dog.
I can understand the intent of the guideline, but that one is a few orders of magnitude more difficult (at least for us) than any of the other requirements.
I did start reading the...
Apologies for bumping an older thread, but I'm curious if there are some folks who have had their Bulldog pass the CGC.
I took Nelson for an evaluation last month and he was able to do everything well except #8 (passing another dog without reacting).
I'm curious as to what strategies folks...
