  • you'll have to share a child picture one day…… My Nickname given by the Hispanic people next door was Casper…. I was always friendly with all the kids in the neighborhood, I didn't care what race, creed or religion they were, if they talked, we were friends and hung out at some time together. Lmbo @ Casper…… I'd forgotten that after I moved to Louisiana, I understand it now, but then didn't know why all my friends and neighbors called me Casper.
I seen a party boat about 5 years ago, in Texas on I-10, being hauled by tractor trailer, on the side of it was Lake Casitas CA. I guess it was like a tour boat for the lake, although I don't remember it being there as a child when we boated and ski'ed there. I seen that Becky and her husband bought a small place in the Big Bear Mountains, then your spotlight mentioned Oxnard, Oh Wow!! Both on this site, This is so awesome!!
I've visited Denver several times, and shopped downtown a few times. Visited Golden a Few times as well… Very beautiful !! My Aunt from Milwaukee moved to Boulder, where she lived with my cousin until she passed, being around my Mothers family led us back to Louisiana, How did you end up in CO?? Yep, this has been an awesome day, and thanks for the walk down memory lane, thats been too awesome!!
that's where I learned to water ski, and was my first fresh water fishing outing with the family…. camping there, and the Big Bear Mountains we seen every day from our homes, covered with clouds, and full of Snow!! How Kewl that was…. The Santa Anna Winds blew through their, Nice and warm, only remember 1 Thunderstorm ever, and the weather was so awesome!! We all played at each others houses, The Baseball games at Bubbling Springs park, when we weren't playing on the base. The school yard was always a good place for weekend ball games. What a child hood… Oh yeah, small world!!
I remember the St. Bernard, I had a husky shepherd then, red and white, his tail curled up on his back, I use to walk him around that block all the time, up Bryce Canyon, back on J street, down teakwood past your house with the St. Bernard, past Becky's house, and back home. Do you remember Bubbling Springs park?
yes, I do remember them, only because it wasn't kewl back then…. I remember everyone not liking it very much, but yes… I remember them, they were very nice people!! But I was just a kid, back in the 70's, lol what did I know?? Right??
Jeannie, you may remember this, or maybe not, My younger brother and I had a mini bike, we use to ride in the alley between us, because we weren't allowed on the street, so we rode in the alley, do you remember that??
why are Gretchan and Manual so familiar, I haven't heard those names since I was young, but I can't remember how or why?? I was 11 when we moved, man oh man oh man, i can't believe we were neighbors, I played so much in your neighborhood with school friends, those streets were so safe as a kid, we use to play until the street lights come on, then we all went home. The names Gretchan and Manual, are so familiar, I got to say I know them, I just can't remember them…..
There was a little girl I went to school with, that lived on Kern street, her Dad was a police man, I can't remember her name right off of the bat, but we use to play in their front yard, and they had fruit trees everywhere, Mango's or something strange I haven't seen since childhood. I remember the boys dragging their wagons around the neighborhood selling fresh grown apples, like a dozen or so for a $1.00, and you get to pick the ones you wanted, They were giant, red, sweet and so juicy…..
I remember the Big Sled @ Christmas, Our House had a Big Blue Cross on top that my Dad built for my Mom, He put it on the roof, it was the only one like it at Christmas. I do remember the Big yellow truck, like suburban, it had candied apples, popcorn, and doughnuts, my Mom use to send me with a dollar out to meet him, and get a bakers dozen lol!! Wow!! My younger brother and I use to roller skate around the block on teakwood, were so close in age, how did we not meet?? This is too Awesome!!!!
Jeannie, I know I remember "L" street, but can't for the life of me see it in my mind, my bike rides took me all through their. I lived @ 735 Bryce Canyon, and remember flying kites in the Santa Anna winds, and flying cox airplanes on a control line on the school grounds (Sunkist). I grew up there 1965-1975, Born in N'awlins in 64. Moving back to Slidell in 1976. My dad was from Milwaukee, Mother from New Orleans, Life all but stopped moving back to the country. lol So Awesome, someone from home…
I couldn't wait until the summer, to ride my bicycle to Hueneme high, pay a quarter and swim all day in their life guard supervised pools. I remember camping with my family in Thousand Oaks as a child, and fishing at Lake Casitas!! And ohhh do I ever remember the Euclaliptus trees going out to the 101, and the Wonderful scenic drive the 101 was up through Santa Barbara. My Dads boat was in a slip at Ventura, I'll never forget her name, "The Bohemian Girl" whatever that meant…. Many awesome days fishing offshore with my Dad. My first crush, was on a girl named Rebecka (Becky) Newberry, and she lived on Teakwood street, Man oh man, you share some great memories.
OMG….. Teakwood was right behind me, I was raised on Bryce Canyon, 1 ½ block from Sunkist Elementary. My Dad was a see bee, and I remember hearing the bugle play every morning and evening from my house, Sunrise and sunset. I Bowled on the base as well, and was only allowed on the base after my dad sitting me down and explaining what the base was about. I also played little league baseball on the base, for a little league team known as the dodgers…… And have been to the Marine Museum more than once, both on my own in exploring, and on school field trips. I also spent many days on the pier of Port Hueneme, and remember the ship that was overturned and laying on it's side coming into channel Islands where I learned to Swim.
