I gave Uga a raw femur bone yesterday for the first time. She went NUTS for it & chewed on it all day. Today she has itchy, red, yeasty ears & her chin pimples look worse. Could she be reacting to her bone? She gets hamburger all the time with no problems, but I always cook it & she's never had bone marrow before.

Idk why her ears are so red & gunky. They're always squeaky clean!

Will ACV irritate her red skin if I clean her ears w it? I used witch hazel this morning, but I thought the ACV would help get rid of the yeast?

Not really an answer, but Castor reacts a bit like that from beef bones. He gets red and if he eats beef he also gets red and more yeasty. So yes, I think they can be allergic or at least more sensitive to beef.

Below is a recipe for ears and any infection. Bullet proof if I do say so. A few have tried it Jersey and it works wonderful with fantastic results. I also keep it on hand for Nyala's tail pocket. A member wrote this:

From Saalwi*/ SarahIt's been a little while since I've posted so to catch up...Sgt.Schultz is turning 10 tomorrow and is still full of himself. His health has been pretty good (lots of maintenance) but I wouldn't trade him for the world.I've been home cooking for about 3 years (in a pinch we use a grain free honest kitchen that we add a protein to) and this seems to work well for his*system. His*chronic ear infections have been healed with a blend of essential oils that we apply weekly with a cotton balls - better than any antibiotic or vet supplied ear drop. Here is the essential oil recipe for ear infections or just maintaining good ear*health.Spray*on cotton ball and wipe out ears ...don't spray directly in*ears. In*a 2 ounce glass spray bottle, combine:15 drops Lavender 15 drops Geranium 15 drops Frankincense 15 drops Basil 10 drops Arborvitae. Fractionated Coconut Oil to fill the bottle about 3/4 of the way full. Shake bottle well before using. Use once a week to treat ears that have an ear infection or once a month as a preventative measure in ears that are prone to recurrent ear infectionsIf ears are especially inflamed or infected, dilute 2 drops of lavender in 4 drops of fractionated coconut oil on a cotton ball and apply lightly to soothe the inflamed ear area.

It will help combat yeast, yes. Make sure to dilute it. Rather than apply topically on the face though, you can give in water or food…battling the yeast from the inside is more helpful. NuVet makes a good ear cleaner, my dog hates it…but it worked great for buildup.

My guys rub their faces after eating the bone too... nit sure why, but i give them a good face wash to help lessen any itch.

I'm pretty sure my girl's allergic to beef. No more femur for her. She gets to go back to her antler. No more hamburger either. Switching back to turkey.
I'm cleaning her nose & ears twice a day, & giving her benadryl, but she's still a little yeasty & itchy. Poor girl. :(
