Los Angeles County health officials are reporting dog outbreaks of canine influenza and leptospirosis in recent months.

After coming home from doggy day care on Monday, Ibsen arrived home with flu-like symptoms: lethargy, loss of appetite, runny nose, etc. We took him to the vet on Wednesday, and he was prescribed antibiotics. I am now monitoring him, and it's the third day, hoping he will turn the corner tomorrow. He requires rest, supervision, and no interaction with dogs or doggy day care for 28 days, as he is still contagious. Unfortunately, there is no cure for dog flu. The only treatment is supportive, which means making him feel comfortable as possible while the virus runs its course.

A few things to note, Ibsen is full vaccinated, so this was a breakthrough case, similar to COVID.

Please get your dogs vaccinated and be careful at dog parks, doggy day care, and interaction with strangers' dogs. Please see the states with the highest reported outbreaks here.

Stay safe and healthy out there, bully parents! And please send your positive energy and prayers to Ibsen! Poor booger!
