& I'm ready to pull mine out! haha
I don't know if anyone remembers our story...issues w chronic UTI in last year & a half. Vet put her on Hills c/d in Feb as a last effort. No more UTI's but bad allergy issues this spring. Went to new vet in June who agreed to help w food transition. We transitioned her at the end of June to The Honest Kitchen Keen (not grain free, but THK rep said best for urinary issues) & started her on a probiotic and omega 3's. She had one hive flare up in early July & did a round of steroid. The new vet thought it was grass allergy issues bc grass pollens were peaked in our area at the time. After we finished steroids we started benadryl preventatively. We had done one follow up urine analysis at the end of July and all was well. I am doing dipsticks at home once a week and her pH is staying at 6. So - the UTI issue seems to be holding tight one THK.
She has been very itchy despite the prophylactic benadryl (2 morning & night). When I bathed her last week, a TON of hair came out. She now has marble sized thin/bald patches ALL over her body. She also had some red bumps all over her back ...not sure if they were hives. They seemed to have gone away since her bath. Anyone experienced this? She is still very itchy. Not sure if maybe a sensitivity to the food (turkey & potatoes both ingredients) or just seasonal allergies as we live surrounded by a large field with rag weed, etc. Any thoughts on what this reaction is? We have experience many positive changes with the food (her ears have cleared up, more energy, no vomiting in the morning, & most importantly no new UTIs). Im wondering if we don't need to push it a step further & try the grain free formula, but I am nervous with the UTI issues to do that since the food we are on is more designed with dogs w urinary issues.
We go to the vet on Thursday. She had a skin scraping in May for demodex which came back ok. She had mentioned putting her on a daily allergy med called Apoquel. She said sometimes the benadryl is like using a water hose to put out a forest fire & given where we live I think this is probably worth a try if it's environmental. I'm also going to ask her about allergy testing. Any other ideas about things we should try? I am going to take her the info on the NuVet. We didn't want to start too many things at once when we did the food change.
Sorry this is so long and rambling! Such is life w a 2 year old, 5 week old newborn, & problematic bully.
