As some know I live on an acreage and have chickens and cows. I fell on a YouTube video on why chickens don’t lay. This guy had chickens that weren’t laying. Been months. He figured it had to be the feed. So he stopped feeding his chickens with this feed. He started to cook beans and pasta for his chickens. They’re now all laying. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m telling you all this because……..that chicken feed he stopped using was Purina‼️ Purina does even chicken feed! Crap man, Go figure! They can’t even get that right. Lolll

well hello ole friend. Nooooooow here to talk chickens :) you started it..lol So, curious what do you feed? I use either scratch and peck mash (the one that's just grain), I've used oh crud, cant think of the other two. but, just curious what you use ........if ya don't mind ;)

Always nice to see you my friend.
Why 👆that’s there, I have no clue!

As you know, I’m in Canada. So I’ll buy local cause of our temperatures. For layers. 17% protein. I also do fermentation for the chickens. Yeah I know. Lolll I use a 5 gal bucket, half of that pellet and a 1/4 of whole wheat. Fill it up with water (well water in my case) and I leave about 2” before top. Cover it and leave it for 5 days. You can add some milk or yogurt to have a better fermentation. I give them, 37 chickens a good shovel split in 2 flat containers and whammm gone in 5 mins 😁 As spring hits, my chickens are running in a field so they can have grass n bugs. They still get the pellets in their feeders. You can use a bit of each: thin black sunflower seeds, not the ones we eat. Slim n thin, wheat, oats, barley to ferment. Corn only if you can find non gmo which is harder to find cause all corn on the market n even cob has gmo. 🤮

well thank you so very much. I do, off and off, ferment my grains so i will prob get back on that ;) I had chickens for most of my life and then didnt for a few years (travel back and forth to friends) and then, while sitting on front porch flew a screeching chicken with the ferral cats chasing and I ran up to her begging her not to fly away and low and behold, she sat atop the car and let me grab her. Neighbor gave me a friend for her and here we are :) just the two, my itty bitty one I caught, and her chubby best friend that was an outcast of neighbor :) Had the about a year now and love um to pieces. My coop was in disrepair but I tidied it up, and extended the run to extend all over yard. my other ones, all big girls, got to roam free over my 1/3rd acre but this little one....... well I was sitting 4 feet from her and a halk had the nerve to sweep down and try to take her from me :( I chased in time and so now girls can go out in covered areas only. Soooooooooooooo, that's my story here in the bulldog forum lololol

No one will answer us in here regarding chickens. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Every year or 2 I buy new chickens cause after 2-3 yrs of age they lay less. I end up giving the older ones away. My chickens are in a bigger field but I keep a big gate open where’s there’s a barn the cows go in. When I rotate the cows in different parts of the pastures, I leave the chickens running around when cows are elsewhere and they get a barn to themselves. I have golden n bald eagles, red hawks, owls which I see them flying more when the farmers are out rotating their fields in the spring. It brings out all rodents out of the ground and these birds are watching.

I’m always outside when spring kicks in. We do a massive garden for the cows and food banks. Usually these birds of prey won’t come around if humans are there plus Sadie my German Shepherd goes after anything that walks and flys…..Farm dog doing her job. 🤷🏼‍♀️

When I bought this place, the county’s accessor came to poke his nose to see if we added an extra building. He walks in the back of the house where I was working doing something and Sadie went for him. She put him against the wall and just sat there. He didn’t move an inch. I grabbed here, put her in the house and gave him shit to never come here with calling. He never came back to this day lolll

I’m so jealous… I want chickens!!!
