Vets are scammers

I've always called this profiteering on peoples emotions. In the UK a great number of small vets are being taken over and amalgamated, by hedge funds, and the bottom line is, this what you have to make, every month, and we don't care how you make that money. But until this is regulated properly, this ain't going to stop any time soon. Great video (y)

The stories I’ve read in here for an over a decade, ā€œmostā€ member’s vets are there to push meds for no reason. Like the big Pharmaceuticals, it’s more profitable if you’re sick. A healthy dog/human there’s no money to make. They want you sick!

It’s sad… most are being bought by private equity firms and soon there won’t be many mom/pop type vet clinics .

So far we are blessed our vet of over 20 years has no intention of being bought out. He loves his family owned business and a few years ago added on to the facility… one side for cats/small animals and the other side for dogs

Like yours mine is also family owed. His brother does farm animals and mine does domestic. He’s all for a raw diets, essential oils, vasectomies, NuStock and never pushes vaccines nor them horrible kibbles for kickbacks unless the client asks for them. His assistant are the opposites which sadly you need at least one šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Definitely a keeper.

My original Vet I had for 25yrs, he retired due to health problems. I went through another tree Vets, before finding a great husband and wife team. Likewise no problem with Raw, that makes a change, to the Kibble in the corner of the waiting room for sale. (and over priced) Also if you need Meds, they offer you the prescription if you want to use the internet. I never have, everyone in business has to make a profit, just don't Rip us off.

I’ve only recently discovered that along with paying Ā£19.99 a month pet care plan (contracts for 12 months) with so called benefits that aren’t quite what they seem I’m paying double compared to the smaller non- local vets. This past 3-4 months I’ve paid around Ā£3,000 that’s with the ā€œbenefits ā€œ of the plan.
Elsewhere for the same consultations, X-rays spaying ,vaxxes meds etc it would have been around Ā£1,400/500. Freya’s meds are much cheaper online so I enquired about getting a prescription from the vets, they charge Ā£19.99 almost everywhere else it’s Ā£9.99 or thereabouts. Because it’s a country wide business part of another huge pet industry they get away with it! I’m looking to change now which is a big disappointment because Freya loves them and they all have a soft spot for her and treat her extra well than other dogs and animals in the clinic šŸ˜‚ it’s also a lovely walk there and back for us. Other practices are in different towns each are around 30 minutes drive away and I don’t drive which is inconvenient.
I think vets should have some sort of a price cap, people’s circumstances can change out of the blue in the current climate and suddenly they may struggle with vet bills or limit treatment which is cruel for the animals. Insurance only goes so far.

Human insurance and prices are the same way… I know a few people that are ā€œuninsured or self insured ā€œ and pay way less for drugs and visits

Think carefully Donna before you change insurance for Freya. With the new insurance, Freya will not be covered for anything that she has visited the Vet for in the future. Everything is stacked against owners. Also in the event of a claim, insurance companies will always contact the Vet for information, and it also includes, minor ailments when no treatment was required, but may in the future. Like I said in my previous post, this will not change anytime soon.
