Hello wonderful members of English Bulldog News!

I would like to create a new page (eventually once I get done with the other 4 pages on my to do list!), but I thought I would start this thread to get input from our fellow members, so when I am ready to start this page, I will have plenty of information to throw out there.

I would like to create a "Verteranarian Recommendation" page that will be linked from the home page as well as the forums.

Do you have the best English Bulldog vet? Do you have confidence in their ability to care for your baby(ies)? Please list the name of the clinic & vet, their phone number, as well as your city and state. I am not going to list addresses because this will take up too much space on the page.

You may want to contact them for permission first, but I doubt they will mind free advertising :) ;)

This way, we can help new bulldog owners find a vet they will have confidence in to take care of their breed.

EDIT, HERE IS THE PAGE: http://www.englishbulldognews.com/c...ews-Recommended-English-Bulldog-Veterinarians

Chester goes to Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center in Orchard Park, NY (suburb of Buffalo). 716-662-6660.

He sees Dr. Mark Hedges - who also specializes in orthopedics. (which is a good thing in the Bully world).

He came on the recommendation of our breeder (who also lives in suburban Buffalo and uses him).

For northern California or southern Oregon area's I highly recommend Dr. Kevin Starnes at the Roxy Ann Veterinary Hospital in Central Point, Oregon. Ph. 1-541-664-1521 He see's a ton of Bulldogs and is very familiar with the breed as well as their correct conformation. He's also a reproductive specialist. If you go to him please tell him I referred you.
Thanks,
Susan Abner

It took us three tries with our baby bully Oliver's vet, but we found one all the way out in Riverside, CA that specializes in Bulldogs. His name is Dr. Butchko and he allayed most of our concerns when we took Oli there last weekend. They don't take appointments, so get there early. We arrived at 7:30 am on Saturday and drove in from the South Bay of L.A. There was already a line of bulldogs and parents. Nonetheless, we got in an out in under an hour. Dr. Butchko has been in the bulldog business for over 40 years. The other two vets told us Oliver would undoubtedly get cancer later in life because one of his testicles hasn't dropped. Not so, according to Butchko. Anyway, I cannot say how relieved we felt after taking our baby to someone competent.

Shannon is definitely right about Dr. Butchko. People come from all over Southern California and farther to see him. He doesn't take appointments, will not give prices over the phone and requires you pay cash for certain things. These are more vets recommended for bulldogs in the Southern California area, this is the list that the SoCal Bulldog Rescue sends out in it's newsletter along with Dr. Butchko but I left that out because Shannon already rpovided his contact info:

Hey greay idea! Too bad I dont really think there is anyone worth mentioning here in tucson at least for now! What a shame.

So of course I need to add the doctor I work for on here!!! :D
Dr. Katie Thompson and Dr. Ben Stading, They are bother WONDERFUL vets in the Brandon, fl area (and I know a AWSOME technician too!) ;)

Veterinary Center at Fishhawk
5484 Lithia Pinecrest Rd, Lithia, FL 33547
(813) 681-9080

Zen and Carbon see Dr. Arn, Desert Inn Animal Hospital, 3065 East Desert Inn Road
Las Vegas, Nevada 89121, Phone (702) 732-2210 or (702) 898-PETS

Dr. Arn is spectacular. He knows bulldog breeds so well, he has patients come in from all over the country. He did Carbon nasal, palate and throat surgery and anytime we have any concerns about Zen or Carbon, we go straight to him. He is super busy so appointments are STRONGLY recommended.

We recommend crate training for housebreaking. A Bulldog can over heat very easily so never leave your English Bulldog out for long periods of time in the hot weather. 10 minutes is plenty in the heat of the day. Over heating can kill a Bulldog. Most Bulldogs cannot get out of a swimming pool if they fall in. If you have a pool please keep the dog away if you are not there. Most English Bulldogs cannot swim .Buy a life jacket made for an English Bulldog if they are going to be near water. The veterinarian you choose is very important only choose a vet recommended for English Bulldogs .

Vet Recommendation...

Bradfordville "Paws and Claws" Veterinary Hospital
Dr. Otfried Guhrt
Tallahassee, Florida
850-906-0444
http://www.bradfordvillevet.com/

This is the best Vet I have ever dealt with. They will come in early, stay late, they offer advice and are very fair with their pricing. Dr Guhrt has great knowledge of the breed and has performed surgery on my girl 3 times all with great success! This vet comes highly recommended!

I live in the Eastern Panhandle of WV, near the VA border. The vet we use is Hillside Veterinary Hospital. I have taken all my pets there since I moved here, Dr. Roberts is the best. He is the one that pushed me over the fence for an English Bulldog, his favorite breed. The techs are great and the drs are very knowledgable. When my lab passed away in Nov 2009, they were so fantastic in the care they gave him the week before he died and they tried everything they thought possbile that would help. I totally trust them to not do unnecessary testing and such. 304-728-2203
