Anyone any tips on getting the smell of dog out my carpets? I hoover the carpet every day if not twice a day, yet today I sat on the floor to do some paperwork Iā€™d brought home from work and couldnā€™t believe the smell, it doesnā€™t help she scoots when her glands. Also how good are scentys around bulldog Iā€™m thinking of investing in a few of these but I worry about them being to much for ruby.

One of my other houses I rent out, I just evicted the tenants after I was trying to sell it and according to the realtors, most clients walked out cause of smell. Ohhhhhh did that got me going to investigate. I pretend I had clients to see the house which were people I know and we went over. Omg I was fuming cause it was so true it smell. First my lease said NO DOGS cause 3/4carpets throughout the house. 2 dogs in kennels all day long, one EB 10yrs old and one Rottie 18months NO TRAYS UNDER THEM!!! I took pictures of the dogs that didnā€™t even have room to turn around! I told them they got 2weeks to get out or Iā€™m reporting them. (I did anyway as you donā€™t treat dogs like that!).. I just had the carpets professionally cleans by specialist. Carpets looked cleaned but it was the smell... where both cages were sitting was the worst place. They did put a special cleaning detergent for urine n other harsh smells. Itā€™s much better BUT...I went back cause I made an Essential Oil mixture. Now I know Tea Tree will kill mostly all airborne pathogens n bacteria. So I simply went overboard making sure to kill whatever is lingering in them carpets. In a spray bottle of about one liter, I filled it of water of course, took a whole bottle of tea tree, lavender, lemon. Amazingly, it really got rid of the smell. Tomorrow Iā€™m going back n re-spray again before new tenants comes in for oct 1. Carpets are the worst thing to collect all sorts of dirt n bacteria. Just make sure if you do spray as I explain it dries before you dogs steps on it. These are 3 safe oils but tea tree is very powerful so let it dry. These plugins are mostly all chemicals. I personally donā€™t use them as itā€™s not healthy.

For a temporary fix, I sprinkle plain old Baking Soda all over the carpet before bed and let sit overnight, then vacuum first thing before the dogs start walking all over it. It helps a lot.

The issue is usually in the padding... you canā€™t clean deep enough to get to where the real smell is living.

I do like Pam said for my area rug... baking soda overnight

I absolutely agree and we got rid of all our carpet downstairs. Unfortunately, my floors were like a skating rink for Monty and we were scared he would hurt himself when he got the zoomies, so we had to put rugs and runners everywhere. That's where the baking soda comes in handy!

You are so right and usually wool. We found out when we came here that poor Chumly was allergic to wool! No wonder he had so many allergy problems there.

You are right, a lot of places are carpet over here, Iā€™m seriously thinking of pulling the carpet up and putting flooring down, if I canā€™t get on top of this smell, I never thought of bicarbonate of soda. Iā€™ll give that a try

The hardest wood flooring is bamboo, then hickory then maple. And the best finish would be a distressed low gloss finish. But the most durable is wood look ceramic. If I redo flooring I will just go with ceramic all over.

I have family in England. I know they say itā€™s carpets cause of the dampness as rains often. I know wooden floors is extremely expensive over there. If you decide to get wood, better ask what works for UK. Mind you Iā€™m pretty sure they are selling what works down there. Or simply just stop sitting on the floor hahaha...sorry had to say it.. :D

Iā€™m not a big fan of carpets because of this. How about renting for a day or two a steam carpet cleaner? Frankly, I donā€™t believe that concealing smell with aromas will help significantly. I have an area carpet 3 by 4 meters size and once in two months I cannot stand the smell, itā€™s just from Tanks paws, carpet smells with dogs. I drag it outside in a sunny day and literally wash it with the hose and Lysol solution and let it dry in the sun.

If you get ceramic get the type that has color all the way thru, that way if it gets chipped, you will not notice it.

Also just remembered that waterproof luxury vinyl planks or tiles are supposed to be pet friendly too.

I remember you said you were so happy the tenants were moving in with an English bulldog. LOL I'll paste that message below:
Re: One of the Oldest Living English Bulldogs, our boy Guhrka, age 16, record breaker?
