We picked up Phoebe on Tuesday. It's Friday night and she's had diarrhea for most of her bowel movements.
We've been feeding her the food the breeder (reputable, btw) gave us she hasn't eaten anything weird or out of line (just her food).
The breeder sent us home with a 3 day supply of amoxicillin to help with her adjustment to the new environment.
So I'm wondering if the diarrhea is from the amoxicillin or maybe just stress of new home...or both. For what it's worth, she hasn't really been sleeping as much as we thought she would: Maybe 2 hours total during the day and, kenneled at the foot of our bed, about 5-6 hours in the evening with a barking session every couple of hours or so.
Last night's amoxicillin dose was her last (thursday night) and she's still had the runs today (friday).
If she's still squirting tomorrow, should we get her to a vet?

I'm sure some of the others on here will know more, but yes the amoxicillin could be the cause of her diarrhea. It can kill the good bacteria in her gut. Try giving her a tablespoon of pure pumpkin puree not the pie filling 100 percent pure.

Thank you, @Dmrock. She had a more 'solid' bm this morning so maaaaaybe trending in the right direction?

How old is she? And yes, it can be from stress of the change in homes. Give her a few days to a week to settle in.

Also as mentioned, add our canned pumpkin when you switch to a new food. Try not to stay with what the breeders feed as it will most likely not be a quality food. Since pups are getting all nutrients from momma milk the quality of kibble isn’t as important

She's 9 weeks old.
Been with us since Tuesday (today is Saturday).
We'll get some pumpkin puree.
What are some recommedend dog foods? We used to get Blue Buffalo for a dog I had about 15 years ago.
Any recommendations on food would be appreciated.

No Purina, science diet or royal canin. All will say raw diet is the best. You can look on here for quality kibble choices. Personally I go with open farms ancient grains, I don't do the chicken or beef and I use their freeze dried raw as a topper.

If staying with kibble Open farm , Zingnature, Orijen are some quality kibble. Try turkey, duck or another novel protein, avoid chicken

Hopefully your puppy is doing better. Dehydration would be a big concern for me. Monitor how much she is drinking and peeing. If you see blood in the stool, get her to a vet ASAP. That may be caused by coccidia or giardia. She is very young and it's best to err on the side of caution, IMO. If this isn't resolved by Monday AM, if it were my puppy, I'd take her to a vet and not wait another day.

I'm wondering why the breeder would send you home with an antibiotic... I've never heard of one doing that before. Antibiotics are for treating infections, not to calm stomachs or nervous puppies.

Beautiful little fur baby 😍

All great advice mentioned up there. We absolutely don’t need to give antibiotics for a new environment. It destroys a gut flora and why the diarrhea. How’s little Phoebe today?
