Hi Everyone,
My name is Fiona. I live in the UK. I have just adopted a 7 month old Bulldog puppy. He has come from a pretty awful background. We have only had him a week now and I am more in love than I could have thought was possible.
Wilson is so full of character. So funny and so naughty! I also have four other dogs. Two I have had since puppies and two who were rescues.
He appears to be in good health but is massively overweight. He came from a hoarding situation. Had never been walked or socialised. I weighed Wilson last week and he is 26.3 Kg. So heā€™s eating lots of vegetables and lots of exercise in small amounts.
Any other tips would be gratefully received.
So happy to be part of a bulldog community

Good evening, Wilson and welcome both of you to the forum! He's adorable, and he certainly found a nice spot in front of the fireplace! Sorry to hear about his background but wonderful that he is now in a nice place and on a good diet. With exercise and good food he will soon develop into a handsome young man!

Thank you for the lovely messages everyone.
So I weighed Wilson today, exactly a week after I got him. He has had a total change is his way of life. Loads of exercise, most of his meals have been vegetables with very little kibble and he plays with one of my other dogs non-stop.
But he has not lost any weight at all. Iā€™m so disappointed. I know for his health he needs to so would really love any other advice

He is a pup so he needs lots of protein, what kibble are you currently feeding

Hi, thank you for your message. I am in the UK and feed him Arden Grange puppy which is a very good quality kibble. I am giving him less than he should be on but adding fish or egg to increase the protein.
The strange thing is he looks thinner than when we got him but the scales are not showing any weight loss

Theses are your ingredients:
Ingredients: Chicken (Fresh chicken 18%, chicken meat meal 18%), rice, maize, refined chicken oil, whole dried egg, beet pulp, fish meal, chicken digest, whole linseed, krill, yeast, minerals, prebiotic FOS, prebiotic MOS, yucca extract, glucosamine, MSM, chondroitin, cranberries, nucleotides.

Since heā€™s a pup, good to introduce him chicken. ā€œIFā€ he develops any allergies with chicken change protein. I would personally give him Acana single protein bags. In yours you have rice n corn. Thatā€™s not going to help him lose weight n also refined chicken fat is definitely not healthy. In UK you do have Acana. Start with Duck as itā€™s easier to digest, once bag is done, get another protein bag. Rotation is the key for a dog to avoid allergies. Rotate each time. You can finish you bag but yes do change to Acana. Btw how many cups you feed him?

Hello and welcome to our great group of bulldogs who own humans. You have a very good looking pup there and I know you will have a great time and lots of fun with him. They do tend to be a bit on the taking care of side but well worth every effort to keep them healthy. Any questions you have will quickly be answered here, so don't be afraid to ask. There is a wealth of information on these little cutie pies at this site. I certainly have learned a lot since I joined and I hope you will too. Good luck and have fun with that fella. My boys Gabe and Charlie say hello.

At 7 months he should be GAINING weight at a good pace. The fact that he's not NOT gaining weight means that you are making progress. If you can keep his weight the same for the next couple of months his body will grow into the current weight and he will appear to be thinning. Stay the course for this handsome little one...er, big one.
BTW, good rule of thumb...avoid any foods with wheat, corn, or soy.
