Hello:)
I’d appreciate any advise, experience, information anyone may have, with a growth under the hind paw. I’ve attached an image ( sorry for how it looks). He’s bitten it so, it was bleeding but now that’s stopped.

The vets have suggested surgery but he’s 7 and there’s a chance he may not wake up. It will be done under full anaesthesia, they aren’t willing to do it with only local anaesthesia.

I’m very worried I hope it’s not cancerous. Has anyone had his experience before? I’d be so grateful to hear from someone.

It’s soft
Was there a biopsy done for these vets to suggest surgery for this cyst on the paw?

For time being, I personally would put NuStock, wrap the paw or put a baby sock on it so he doesn’t bite it. I’m thinking since it’s soft, it will burst and heal. There is a thread in the forum with a member having somewhat same issue with their dog.

Thanks a million for answering! No there was no biopsy done. They said it doesn’t make any sense, since it’s large. I went to 3 vets, all seem akin on making money off the surgery.

Well it doesn’t look like it will burst, it’s like a piece of flesh growing.

I hope to find that thread …

You’ve given more details so hopefully it’s clearer to these members. @2BullyMama @oscarmayer @Manydogs

Amazing how vets ready for surgery when no biopsy was done nor suggested what it can be.

Cheli had one of these in his mouth recently, our vet did remove it because it was flapping and was concerned it would cause him to not eat. We did not allow anesthesia so they ā€œdruggedā€ him with gabapentin and tramadol. He was quite high when we picked him up but all went well.

I understand your worry—it's always scary when a beloved pet faces surgery. My dog had a similar lump, and surgery went fine even at age 9. Get a second opinion if unsure, but sometimes removal is the best way to get answers. Hoping it’s benign—thinking of you both.
