So I took Frankie to the vet yesterday because he had been really squinting his eyes and his third eyelids were red and irritated the last few days.
(Of course yesterday they weren’t as bad as they had been🤦‍♀️)
I was hoping it was nothing serious.
Thank goodness they are just irritated (entropion) so they gave me terramycin and some eye lube.
They did do a dye in his eyes to make sure they weren’t scratched.
We were planning on getting that done when he gets neutered. We were planning on that when he was at least 1 year old. The vet that day thought that age would be best for the entropion surgery too. Any advice welcome. I hear some say 18 months to two years for neutering. And the vet yesterday that he thought 8-9 months would be fine for Frankie.
And Frankie is now 56 lbs! 😂 he will be 7 months old on 10th of January. He looks nice and slim to me.
Here they are yesterday enjoying a little warmer weather!

I personally think that’s too early to neuter.

I would wait to neuter until 18-24 months of age cause it affects the joints and growth if done too early.

Unless he is at a point where he NEEDS to be neutered sooner, I would wait if it were my dog. And waiting to neuter until 18-24 months(18 months old being the earliest), it can prevent growth issues and prevent certain cancers, and joint disease.

But every dog is different, i didn’t know this back then, and my male French Bulldog got neutered at 6 months old because the vet said(I know silly me listened and I didn’t know it was better to wait).

But my 2 other female dogs got spayed at age 5.5 and 4.5 years old.

Here is a few articles:

Way too soon. Not before a year. I just had Sadie fix n she’s over a yr. Regarding entropion surgery, is Frankie’s eye’s leaking? I thought Jake had entropion n my vet did the yellow dye n turned out to be lashes which we couldn’t see without them special lens. We saw 2 during the dye but during surgery he had 7removed.

agree with the gang -- wait till at least a year for neutering

That’s what I was thinking hoping his eyes don’t get any worse. That’s why the vet mentioned maybe doing the neutering a little sooner IF his eyes didn’t get any better. I don’t want him put under any more that needed.
They don’t seem as irritated now! Going the eye lube keeps him comfortable!

Wait!! So we could just have some lashes removed??? Or would it still be entropion surgery?

No, I gave you Jake’s issue don’t mean same for Frankie. Did the vet do the yellow dye in Frankie’s eye?
Lol…. I knew you meant for Jake no was just wondering if it “could” possibly just be some eyelash removal??
Yes they did a dye test to see if there were any scratches. There were not any.

Sounds like Jake’s situation he had. No scratches or anything. They did remove all n he’s fine now. Btw, they can regrow. Once in a while he gets a little teary but definitely not leaking like when the lashes were all there. It’s also very windy n dusty where I live 🤷🏼‍♀️

Rusty had ingrown eyelashes, they plucked all 10-12 of them from both eyes, and they regrew I think about 8 of them or more regrew again!

Well I hope that is an option for Frank. Maybe we can try that first! His must be really small lashes because I don’t see them. We have A LOT of pollen here seems constant. Some days are worse that others with the gunky eyes. He is pretty good about letting me get it out.

So did they just pluck them again or do a different procedure?

No cause he has to be under sedation, and they told us to see a eye specialist for laser surgery which is the only way to get rid of them fully for good they said, there is only 1 eye specialist around where I am, and they don’t do laser so there is no point to put him thru unnecessary procedure if they are gonna grow back again.
