When I got my girl from the rescue place, they said that when her eyes got red I should put Optixcare ("eye lube plus") in them. Turns out she has the occasional cherry eye in her right eye and she does seem to have general eye irritation. She is often rubbing her eyes on anything that works. And she totally hates it when I put the Optixcare stuff in her eyes. I was thinking something with an eye dropper might work better. Just wondering what you folks use. It seems as if bulldogs do have those droopy eyes.

I use Optixcare for Jeffo's eyes, only because as dogs get older they are prone to eye ulcers. I use it 2-3 times a week, that is the only reason I use it. Maybe your girl has had an ulcer in the past, if that is the case, she may need it more often, even every day.

Just a thinking about this, if it is really red and irritating, she may need to see the Vet for antibiotic drops, and to check there is no ulcer. How old is Reba?

If her eyes are also tearing it could be dry eye which would be drops twice a day… have the vet check

Reba is five years old. I notice a lot of bulldogs seem to have droopy lids around their eyes, particularly on the bottom and many have red in their eyes.

There must be a reason why the Rescue centre, gave you the info about the eye lube. All I can say is if Jeffo was rubbing his eyes as you say, I would want Vet intervention, just to make sure there was no ulcer.

OK. I think the rescue place knew she had cherry eye and that's why she got the eye lube stuff. So I took Reba to the vets to have him surgically repair the eye problem ... and of course that day there was no cherry eye and he couldn't even tell which eye had the problem. !!! So I'm assuming at that time she had no ulcer then. On the other hand she had a nasty tail pocket problem and the vet thought THAT should be surgically corrected. Reba actually was born without a tail, so it was an infection in the fold on her rear. The vet did a wonderful job with that surgery and she is much more comfortable now.
