Hi brucie is a male 9 month old he's was on 380g a day 1 and a half cups in the morning then the same at 3pm. Now he's 9 months old I've cut his food down to 300g 1 cup in the morning and the same at 3pm but the problem is that he's starving all the time. It doesn't seem a load to cut the food down by 1 cup a day but he seams hungry all the time. Should I still feed him the 380g or keep to the 300g I don't want to under feed him. Food time for us is a nightmare he's trying to jumping up on table when we're having food ,any advice would be much appreciated.
Firstly He should be on 3 cups of kibble a day for his age and for an average English bulldogs weight at that age. Is he still on puppy food? Iāve personally found for bullys at that age they generally need adult . You canāt always go by age.
Are you sure itās not a behavioural thing? Is it only when youāre eating? Dogs like most animals are scavengers , Freya would eat her food and come begging for mine too but It was easy to train her out of that. Donāt ever give in and hand out little treats from your plate because you are only creating a nightmare for yourself, possibly an overweight dog and even unintentionally bad for him, there are all sorts of ingredients toxic to dogs in our foods that we donāt normally take note of, garlic,, dried onion , certain herbs and flavourings among many more things.
Have you considered including other foods in his diet? Such as dog safe vegetables, fruit, fish ,meat , rice, eggs etc. cook the meat thoroughly as heās not raw fed.
Reduce the amount of kibble accordingly if/when you do. I personally wouldnāt recommend kibble alone.
Due to Freyaās allergies and stomach issues she does have some kibble in her diet, research as to ingredients in the brand,is a good idea before choosing a particular brand , many claim to be grain free but thatās not always fully the case and many have hidden or poor quality ingredients that donāt legally need to be named.
