Hi brucie is a male 9 month old he's was on 380g a day 1 and a half cups in the morning then the same at 3pm. Now he's 9 months old I've cut his food down to 300g 1 cup in the morning and the same at 3pm but the problem is that he's starving all the time. It doesn't seem a load to cut the food down by 1 cup a day but he seams hungry all the time. Should I still feed him the 380g or keep to the 300g I don't want to under feed him. Food time for us is a nightmare he's trying to jumping up on table when we're having food ,any advice would be much appreciated.

Tav did we not go over this food quantity, a few weeks ago? So when Bruce isn't jumping around, when you are eating, what is he like the rest of the day, and have you or do you feed him from the table of you're plate? I would have thought the Kibble bag would have the quantities to be fed, on the weight of Bruce. But having said that, I could be wrong because, I don't feed Kibble. I also don't understand why food time is a nightmare?

It said on the royal canin that I was supposed to be feeding him 380g a day over 2 meals which I have but then it said when brucie gets to 9 months feed him 300g I started to feed him to cups a day one in the morning and one in the afternoon but he's been really bad at jumping up on the kitchen doors begging for food and ripping my recycling bags trying to get old tins of food and wrappers. I've put him back up to 170g for breakfast and the same for tea that's only an extra 40g but it's seamed to do the trick. I was feeding him at the table only a little bit because he was sitting down quiet a big mistake when I stopped it and reduced his food that's when he's been going nuts for food.

I think with feeding Bruce at the table, as you say was a big mistake although easy solved. As for the 40g if that makes you're life easier, I don't see that as a problem even a little more. remember what's written on the pack is only a guide, not written in stone.(y)

In all honesty I’ve found royal canin to be one of the worst brands of dog food!
If you’re feeding kibble, of a decent quality, 3 cups a day is the general standard with your dogs weight etc.
You’ve already learnt, feeding from your plate isn’t the best thing to do..we’ve all been there and got the oh bloody hell T-shirt šŸ˜‚.
Something to consider, maybe introduce some other things into his diet. Such as eggs, veggies, fish ,fruit , rice, tripe, liver etc just check it’s safe for dogs. It’s healthy and more enjoyable than just eating dry biscuits and wet food.

The old cliche good advertising can sell a bad product. Having said that if it is only the quantity that is the problem, and Bruce has no other issues with kibble, who am I to knock it. :)

Your issue is royal canin. Get him off that food cause it’s all fillers/grains and no nutrients. Your dog is getting depleted of real meat protein. That’s why he’s always hungry. Also he’s not building a solid immune system if future health problems arise. If you look into this forum, you will notice we are not fans of Royal Canin, Science Hill, anything Purina makes. @Lennie. U.K. might guide you on proper high quality kibbles in UK. I do know UK has Acana. Still a very high quality kibble. MARS hasn’t touched it yet. Do use raw toppers on the kibbles like 1/4 cup of raw liver and or organs. Get his gut going.
