Hi gang,

It's been so long since i have actively been on. The whole place looks different but awesome..! (now just need to find my way around again)

First i want to say sorry. I have missed this place so much.. i don't even know where to begin to try to catch up on all of you and my favorite bullies.
The last several months have been very difficult and consuming. I have been caring for my father for about 10 years. His health really started deteriorating the past couple years..
The last 6 months especially, 2 months ago hospice, and as of last Friday the 15th he has passed.

Needless to say i have been consumed.. taking take care of him, my 50+ hr a week job, the house and all that comes with it, plus my two sweetest angels Stella and Harvey. My husband travels Sunday through Thursday for work so i have been mostly going it alone.

So the real reason for my post is Stella, my sweet little muffin. She has been to the ophthalmologist specialist and she has entropion and distichia.
I need to schedule her surgery as i have already put it off these last few months. I am scared because it's always scary putting them under anesthesia. However I know this is necessary to do. I was just looking for input from any of you that have had this procedure done.

What can i expect?
How did it go?
How was the recovery?

I guess i am just scared.. It's been a really long and hard road lately and i have held it together gracefully.. but if anything were to happen to my baby, that would truly send me over the edge.

I am looking at scheduling just before xmas because both my husband and myself will be home for a solid 2 weeks.. I will need help with her as 2 two of us together can barely get drops in her eyes now just to lubricate them. She hates it and goes absolutely crazy.

Just looking for input from the family i trust :help:
Thanks,
Stella and Harvey's mom

As I remember, two of mine had entropion. Their surgery was no big deal and all went well(I totally trusted my Vet.) The disticia is the more serious, and he will probably either freeze the area, or completely remove it. Just plucking the hairs is not so good, as they will grow back.Make sure he knows about English Bulldogs and their anesthetic requirements. All should go well if you have a good Dr. Don't be afraid to question the Dr. about ALL your concerns. THAT is part of his job, and he should be happy to answer. **As for taking care of your Dad, I am sorry about his passing, though I am sure sadly to say, it was a relief for you. I too had taken care of my Dad.

Thank you @Manydogs, that does put me at ease. And thank you for the advice.. i feel like i've gained so much knowledge here over the past few years, but when it's mine going under i tend to loose my senses and always get worried..

As far as my dad goes, sad to say, you are right on that front too. I am relieved.. but am glad to be able to rest in knowing i did everything possible for him. All the way up to the end. Now i just have to figure out what to do with all my spare time.. that is probably the weirdest part.. putting myself first for once :)

Our experience with the surgery for entropion hasn't been that great, unfortunately. Sophie had the entropion in her right eye - it was always dripping with tears, poor girl. The eye doctor talked us into having surgery on both eyes, even though the left didn't appear to be having any problems. His thinking was that she would likely develop it in the left eye too, and why put her under two separate times? So, we agreed. And now, her left eye is constantly bad and weepy and painful and her right eye is better but doesn't look the same. I know looks aren't important, but it just seemed like we traded one bad eye for the other and our baby's round eyes were, as my husband dramatically puts it, butchered.

I truly hope your experience goes well, and I know they can have a lot of pain from the entropion. Sophie was getting ulcers a lot and I felt so bad for her. I pray your surgeon is wonderful! I do not mean to scare you at all, just want to share our experience.

So sorry about your father, and bless you for taking care of him.

So sorry for your lossā€¦ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

if you have a good vet n trust him/her I donā€™t see why you canā€™t sit down together and talk. Ask questions n follow your gut.
