Just wondering.... We give Bentley a Benadryl once a day for allergies and all, We live in the middle of the woods and a field so allergies can get pretty bad.. His eyes run and start to goop up as well... What do you guys recommend as far as eye drops go? you all have had more experience than us on this stuff and we are just learning.

I found that Zyrtec was better for eye issues than Benadryl. I never used over the counter eye drops, I had to get a vet prescription...

We are going through this with Brutus right now. I also just started Zyrtec. I am going to try to keep his eyes as dry as possible because he is causing irritation to his face.

It doesn't necessarily have to be name brand zyrtec does it?? and also Is his like a brownish looking booger tint coming out of his eyes? lol reason I ask is when we wake up in the mornings he has brown places on his bed.. and its not poop or anything but comes off easy.. I think what he's doing is rubbing his face across it and getting it on his bed since we aren't there at 2 and 3 in the morning trying to wipe his eyes off... He doesn't have any kind of infection though I think he just has bad allergies.

I don' think it has to be Zyrtec per say. Brutus' eyes are just really wet. Whatever we wipe off is clear.

desertskybulldogs is the eye drop queen in my book, she knows which you can use for the pups.

As for the Benedryl... you can give that to him up to 3x a day 1mg per pound of dog.

I use sustaine eye drops and Bausch and Lomb eye wash to keep the eyes fresh and clean. If they are goopy all the time you may want to have a vet check them out for any offending hairs, swelling, ect.
