  • My vet took a portion of Finn's corkscrew tail off--the area where he was getting these hot spot type of infections and where there was a major skin fold. So he's pretty much left with a "nub" and no more skin folds to harbor yeast/bacteria. There are some members here whose bully had the entire tail amputated. Your vet and you will have to discuss the best route for your bully though. If you do a search on the forum and type "tail amputation" you will be able to see some threads that discuss this. I can't paste a URL on this message box, unfortunately, but do a search to get some other member's experiences as well.
Oh boy, the dreaded tail pocket infections. I am too familiar with that as one of my boys, Finn recently underwent partial tail amputation for that reason. He had recurrent infections. I know it's v. painful for our babies so yes, do have it looked at. Your pup may need antibiotics and perhaps some steroids for a few days. Visit our forums as there are various threads re. tail pockets and how to keep them clean and healthy.
