teach your dog an incompatible behavior, so he can't bite. Ex. if he wants to play, he should have a toy in his mouth. Offer him the toy. If he drops it, or doesn't chose to play with that, ignore his attempts to get your attention.

As long as your vet didn't say anything about your dog being on Heartgard ONLY. Sometimes dogs have allergic reactions to the fillers in these things. The "drug" aspect (ivemectin) is the s;s//ame in both however the flavoring (i.e. chicken) might be different and may affect your dog. I would...

I wouldn't ever give ivamectin on your own. It is the active ingredient in heartgard, but dosed improperly could kill your dog. Be careful!
