They took a sample but think parasite is unlikely because sheās up to date on meds. Advised longer stint of bland diet this time (one week) to give her stomach more of an opportunity to heal. Metronizadole and forti flora.
Wasnāt too bad of a trip either, in and out of ER in an hour.
She is six. Bright red. I brought her in. Decided Iād rather spend all night at the ER than all day. I didnāt bring a sample because they have rejected them in the past as non-sterile. Will follow up.
Nelly had a bout of diarrhea two weeks ago. Fasted couple days, bland for three, resumed regular diet (Nutro Ultra Weight) and after a couple days of no bowel movements, she was fine within a week. One week later she has diarrhea again, very bloody this time. No other symptoms, energy fine...
She had the obstruction removed yesterday and is coming home today. We were fortunate in its location, still mostly within the stomach, so they were able to use a minor incision and avoid the intestines. I was concerned because a large section was removed previously. Still not sure what the item...
Thank you. Itās comforting to hear that dogs can have multiple surgeries. She has no bedding and is confined at home. She was kenneled for a week until Friday.
Hi,
Nelly had a previous obstruction (bedding) and with accordion and perforation, she had a resection at removal.
Just left her at the ER with appears to be a small cloth in her small intestine (we are extremely cautious but picked her up from the kennel on Friday). They are observing her...
Try Curaseb Chlorhexidine Shampoo 4% formula. Has to be 4% and you have to leave it on for 10 minutes. We struggled with this for over a year, spent tons of money trying various remedies, and this solved the problem. You can get it on amazon.
Finally following up on this thread. I skipped the dermatology appointment as they were estimating the tests and scripts could run $500-1000. I switched shampoos to Curaseb Chlorhexidine 4% (had been using anti fungal and antibacterial 2% with no luck). You have to leave it on for ten minutes...
Nelly had her seizure episode at 2. First vet recommended $10K worth of surgery and tests in response. Second opinion gave her rx for phenobarbital and sent her home. She has taken it twice a day since, no further episodes. No other interventions as those mentioned, no supplements, no diet...
If itās coming off in clumps with scabs I wouldnāt suspect alopecia. I tried limited ingredients and worked through a prescription elimination diet with no results. I tried anti-fungal anti-bacterial shampoo as well as curaseb. The 4% formula made the difference. Sheās almost completely cleared up.
I spent two years and hundreds of dollars on what looked exactly like this. We describe it as moth eaten at best, at worst large patches of hair would come out in clumps. Try this first. You can buy it on amazon. You have to leave it on for 10 minutes before rinsing. If itās the same condition...
Wow! This will definitely give me some new strategies to try. May have to hold off on supplements until we have exhausted the elimination diet.
Trying to avoid another specialist (dermatologist) for my girl.
Thanks everyone!
Hoping someone might have an answer. Nelly continues to have skin issues where she looks like a moth eaten rug. She is not uncomfortable, but it's unsightly and sometimes widespread. I'm going to try to attach photos.
She breaks out with a scab on the skin which takes the fur with it when it...
