    Tracheostomy and quality of life

Thank you! We have been told that his prognosis is good and he won't need the permanent trach. He has only a temporary trach for now, but for the most part, he is breathing without it. I'm hoping they will close the temp soon.

Other Banks is home - update

I know it is frustrating when we don't have clarity on our dogs health. I hope the Metamucil will help.

    Hypo Plastic Trachea

I'm sorry to hear about Mac. I will pray that he will outgrow this issue. Bulldogs are notorious for having allergies, so I would certainly have him checked. Also, bulldogs do best when kept indoors. Ours is inside all day with the exception of 15-20 minute intervals when we let him outside...

    Tracheostomy and quality of life

Thanks again everyone. We have a followup appt. tomorrow. Dallas is doing great considering what he has been through. We both have been with him 24/7 as he needs to be nebulized and have his temporary trach cleaned multiple times a day. Also, he is has to be hand fed small meals 5 times a day...

Help Needed! bulldog puppy sounds congested

Definitely get her checked ASAP. In the meantime, I would try to nebulize her. You can use a garment steamer (they are inexpensive) or if you have a small bathroom, you can just turn on the hot water and steam the room. Then, stand over her and gently pat her sides right below her ribcage. This...

    Dry nose help

I also use coconut oil. It's incredibly moisturizing and naturally healthy. Remember, some of whatever you put on their nose will end up in their stomach as they will lick after application.

Help Needed! Bulldog not adjusting to recent move

Wheezing can be very serious. Bullies can go from a slight wheeze to a collapsed larynx in seconds. I cannot emphasize enough to get Scully's airway checked out by a GOOD vet. Dr Butchzko in Riverside is good for basic care, but I really like Dr Glass in Tustin. If surgical care is needed, then...

    Tracheostomy and quality of life

It's a...great...day...to be alive! -Travis Tritt That's the song I keep hearing in my head today, actually I can just hear Dallas singing that song. Our boy came home today! Dr Cambridge said he is indeed a miracle dog. He did leave the temporary trach in for now, but when Dallas...

    Tracheostomy and quality of life

Dallas update... We spoke to the technician and she said he is doing fine! He's eating, sleeping and taking short walks. She said that she is amazed at his resiliency. Dr Cambridge will call us later with a more comprehensive update. Thanks again everyone!

    Tracheostomy and quality of life

Update on Dallas... After plenty of researching dogs with tracheostomies, we learned that while it requires special care and sacrifice, dogs can live long full lives. We spoke to our surgeon and consented to the trach should it be necessary. Remember, he gave us 3 scenarios. The 1st was to...

    Tracheostomy and quality of life

Thank you for the link. It is good to see Jackson living a good life with a trach. This type of info helps with the decision.

    Tracheostomy and quality of life

He has laryngeal collapse and his airway is only 4mm. Also, I misspoke regarding the second procedural option. I said laryngeal pullback, but the procedure is actually laryngeotomy. It is a rare procedure where the expand the airway/larynx. Over the weekend, I went to take him for his daily...

    Tracheostomy and quality of life

Hello all, My wife and I are struggling with the decision to place a permanent tracheostomy or putdown our beloved bulldog "Dallas". The surgeon involved has explained and offered two options, either laryngeal tieback or permanent tracheostomy. He will first attempt the tieback, but if is not...
