I tried to search for posts on this topic but it kept popping up that the words were too short?

Anyway, I am not sure what is up with Gator's eyes and if there is a vet open in the city, we will be in their office in the morning. Starting yesterday morning Gator woke up and he seemed like his eyes were watering like crazy and he was rubbing one of them with the side of his paw. So, I gave him a benedryl thinking his seasonal stuff was kicking up. It didn't get any better and he would barely open one eye and not open the other one at all. We know he has entropian in one eye and maybe slightly in the other. The worst eye was the one that we know has entropian. At any rate, I went to get some blink thinking maybe his eyes were dry (benedryl plus entropian plus seasonal allergies). So I started putting it in his eye and it is much better but still not good. He completely opens the less severe eye now and it looks pretty normal. The severe eye, he opens half way where he wouldn't at all before. I can see the inner eyelid is kind of over the eye.

As I said, if there is a vet open in the morning he will be in first thing. If not, I will take him to the ER vet but I think they are half clueless about everything. lol. But I was wondering what your thoughts are. Oh, and we were waiting on doing anything with the entropian until he is one year which is at the end of this month.

Oh man! I don't have a clue about this...but it seems like if blink helped..I would use again later and just watch until you can get into a vet. And of course..a holiday weekend! Hopefully someone will have some ideas for you..poor Gator!

Abby's dry eye developed over time. The way we found out is she slept a lot and kept her eyes closed, then her eye drained gunk and I took her in for an eval....dry eye with a secondary infection because of the dry eye. So now daily drops.

I hope you can see someone tomorrow, it sounds like Gator is miserable. I am not sure what kind of OTC drops you would want to use in the meantime...But I am sure it won't hurt to use something.

JAKEISGREAT I was thinking to just keep using it because it looks like it is working. It is just a temporary relief until we can get in somewhere (anywhere at this point). I am trying not to go to the ER because, honestly, they are super nice but I think the docs are recent vet school grads or something. The last guy was a total idiot and didn't tell me anything I don't already know. At one point, I think I said, "just give him the allergy shots and we can go" or something along those lines. I even asked them once about puppy acne and they said they didn't know what to do! Geesh!

At any rate I will do the blink drops again before bed but I sure hope there isn't an ulcer or anything! I cannot wait to get this all sorted out.

You might wait to see the regular vet. Dry eye sucks but it's not an emergency and you might save some $$ if thats important to you. The drops will help. Could be an eye infection also, or allergies like you suspected. Either way the doctor will probably give baby some medicated eye drops as well as some sort of lubricating ointment.

From your description it sounds like an eye ulcer or a scratch. If he is squinting it means it hurts :(.

Well, took him to the OTHER ER where the opthalmologist has his office during the week. They looked at it and called to consult him. He has a HUGE ulcer that covers most of his cornea. Luckily, it has not gone through the back of the cornea though it is very deep. They are keeping him tonight and treating the eye and the opthalmologist will be in early in the morning and take a look. It could be the result of many things. Entropian, dry eye, injury, rubbing, anything really. We do know he has entropian and it is acting up in the other eye. They are giving him pain meds along with the two different eye drops. I will go in to the office in about an hour to feed him and then not see him again until he has had the ophthalmology appt. in the morning.

I feel bad that I waited a day but I just wasn't sure what was going on and I didn't know about this ER (though I knew that is where the specialist was that I wanted to see for his entropian). I just happened to call to see if the eye guy was in today or not (holiday) and they answered and are an ER too. Score for Gator. They are MUCH more knowledgeable than the other ER and I really felt so much better there.
