Mineral oil??

Hey everyone..I have heard mineral oil is used to treat ear mites..does anyone know if this is true?

It works on the theory of suffocating them. Mineral oil is a byproduct of petrolum production so who knows if there is a chemical substance in it that may kill them. Seems like if MO would suffocate them that any other (perhaps healthier) oil would too. The medicinal drops from the vet aren't too expensive and work wonders.
