Hi Truman's mommy...
I have a little bully who is almost 1 year old. She is just a little thing, but anyhow when she was about 10 weeks old she had something like that happen to her. 1st vet said blah, blah, blah nothing can be done except surg.. Well 2nd opinion from bulldog vet said she will be fine and no.... surgery needed. wow what a difference in vets!!! I do have my girl on glycoflex and she is doing great!! so don't give up hope!!! and as far as the breeder--- I hope that you bought from a good breeder because if not that warranty means nothing.. a good breeder will work things out with you. a bad one you will chuck it up to experience.

Thanks everyone.

He seemed better today but after I fed him and let him out (and he limped around a bit), he was in a lot of pain again. I gave him his meds and he's sleeping but I based on your advice and experiences, I think I am definitely going to make an appointment with a bulldog vet in our area (since we have x rays already) to see what they think and if anything can be done to keep him comfortable while they continue to diagnose him.

Did you get diagnosis to figure out what was wrong? We have yet to get a definitive diagnosis and are hoping to just get the peace of mind to know what it is so we know how to deal with it in the long and short term.

I think seeing a bully vet is a good idea for sure. I mean seeing the specialist, he should know you would think but maybe it is something more common in bullys even and a bulldog vet would know more about this specifically. Certainly cant hurt and like you said for peace of mind if nothing else it is worth millions.

We've got an appointment this morning at the bulldog vet and I did contact the breeder. He asked me to forward him the paperwork and x rays. Based on that, he said I could return the pup for a refund and he would put him to sleep. I refused to return him but asked for a refund and that I be responsible for all his future needs - whatever they are - and he agreed. I don't know if that is common practice but it seemed equitable to me.

That does seem fair to me also. No way I would be able to give the pup back either. At least you will get your money back that will be a big help and hopefully the outcome wont be so bad. Will be waiting to hear what the bully vet has to say later. Good luck!

I hope for the best for you and your puppy. Our bully is 10 weeks old today and I am already so attached to him I know how heartbreaking it must be for you.

We paid a visit to the vet in our area that works with bulldogs and it didn't go that great. She gave Truman another x ray and seemed to think it was his hip due to dysplasia that was causing him pain. She said she'd never seen that level of pain in a pup so young so she was discouraged. I told her the orthopedic surgeon said he would be a candidate for JSP surgery if it is the hip and she did not seem to know what that surgery entailed at all. She also talked a lot about only having him a week or so and "how far did I want to go with this" - which I didn't like.

Overall, it was lot of gloom and doom whereas the orthopedic specialist seemed more knowledgeable and solution oriented.

For his part, Truman was not happy last night so we had to give him some medicine but is doing well today - eating, drinking, playing with toys, trying to bite through my seatbelt in the car - but it is heartbreaking to see him not be able to play though I know he wants to. His quality of life is my primary concern.

Oh I am sorry this vet wasnt more positive. I try and look at the best of things and go with the ortho, he seemed to know more so maybe he was right. At least now you have another set of xrays that you can take to him when you go back, maybe it shows diff than the other. I am heartbroken for you and dont even want to think how hard this all must be for you. I believe in miracles and maybe this will be one. Think positive.

I want to know the name of this breeder. I'm so spitting mad! How they can think so little of a life........let's put him in the back seat of a car with dog and shotgun.

I was kinda thinking the same thing.... like it is a common practice that they usually do. :(

Or what they say to scare you into agreeing on keeping the pup.... even worse.
